Changes are afoot at Arsenal in the coming months, with a growing urge from supporters to replace Arsene Wenger as club manager and notable other pieces of movement emerging amongst the playing contingent.

World Cup winning defender Per Mertesacker is set to hang up his boots at the end of the season to take an academy role with the Gunners, which will lead the captain’s armband to become available once again- and hopefully it’ll find a long-term holder.

Mertesacker and his predecessor, Mikel Arteta, were both not first-team regulars during their time donning the armband and Arsenal should look to bring an end to that this summer, instead finding someone who can hold the role for the coming years.

As such, current vice-captain Laurent Koscielny, now 32, has been omitted from this list as we instead identify those who have a few more years left under their belt- and we believe that these three options would be superb choices.
