Time for Wenger to step up his chase for this powerful midfielder?

Marouane FellainiArsenal have one month to sign Marouane Fellaini for £23.5 million.

Fellaini has been a subject of interest for The Gunners this summer but only have until August 14th to trigger the midfielder’s buy-out clause.

The Belgian still has three years remaining on his Everton deal. But should no club trigger his release clause before the expiry date, the Merseyside club will demand more than £30 million for the 25-year-old.

So knowing the details of his release clause and when it expires, should Arsenal step up their interest in Fellaini? Almost certainly they should.

To be honest, I’m surprised we haven’t already activated the clause. £23 million for a powerful midfielder, one with Premier League experience, is a no-brainer in my opinion. And if we are prepared to give Liverpool over £30 million for Luis Suarez, why haven’t we tabled a bid for Fellaini?

Wenger now has one month to decide whether or not he wants to add a ‘quality player’ he keeps going on about for, what is now perceived as a ‘small fee’.

Fellaini would be an excellent signing and for £23.5 million would be seen as a bargain in the current market. I for one would be annoyed if we don’t at least make an effort to attain his signature.

I have lots of respect for Wenger but if he cant sign Fellaini then he should simply step down and go elsewhere. Does he know that arsenal funs are tired of his free transfer players like CHAMMACK and now we are being linked with Flammin and am sure wenger is salivating at him. Please stop this. Football is not cheap business

I’m surprised that you are surprised we haven’t activated Felainis release clause. Where have you been the last eight years? The simple fact most Arsenal fans still don’t know who is in charge of transfer negotiations and if funds were available to Wenger in years past and he just refused to used them, tells you all you need to know about the way Arsenal are being run. Naive fans hope against all hope for world class signings , only to be disillusioned at the end . Last January Wenger had a huge “war chest” allegedly , only to have signed Monreal for 7 million because the market was overpriced and clubs didn’t want to part with their prized assets in the middle of the season . Yet Gazidis is already saying Wenger will keep some of the 70 million available to him(allegedly ) for the next January transfer window , just in case there will be some bargains then. Even though both Wenger and Gazidis both said in the past ,January is the worst time to look for bargains. Listening to those two speak might give you a whiplash . Now Wenger says he wants to extend his stay at Arsenal, as if that wasn’t obvious before . Where else would he have unlimited power in all aspects of football operations, with no pressure to win might I add. Certainly not at PSG , where he would have to win the league , the French Cup and better Anceloti’s CL efforts by taking PSG deep into Europe. His heart might still be at Arsenal but it is also the safest and cushiest job he could have anywhere.

Tomas, Thanks for a very thought-provoking and insightful analysis of the current situation at the club we love. To be honest, I’m not sure we will sign anyone at all.
