Julio CesarArsene Wenger’s pursuit of adding a goalkeeper to his squad this summer is looking like a mission even Tom Cruise couldn’t accomplish.

It is thought Wenger is keen to add experience to his goalkeeping department following Wojciech Szczesny’s mental strain in the latter stages of last season and Lukasz Fabianski not really seen by the Frenchman and the Arsenal faithful as a worthy challenger for the number one spot.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of shot-stoppers over recent weeks. The likes of Pepe Reina, Victor Valdes, Federico Marchetti, Julio Cesar, and newly Tim Krul have all been touted as possible recruits. However, all of the names listed look set to either stay at their current clubs or overlook Arsenal for other challenges.

The Gunners looked almost certain to sign QPR’s Cesar following their relegation from the Premier League. But it appears, according to latest reports, that the 33-year-old has sealed a season-long loan to Napoli! If this proves to be the case then I don’t know where Wenger will go from here.

Valdes is staying on another season at Barca, Reina will either remain at Liverpool or go to the Nou Camp, while Marchetti and Krul are also keen to stay put at their respective clubs.

So what now?

Well, honestly, I can’t see Wenger signing a new goalkeeper, and perhaps it’s not as much as a pressing matter for the Frenchman as he looks to bolster other areas of his squad before the new season begins.

Hopefully he is able to sign a seasoned goalkeeper in order to aide Szczesny’s development and keep him level-headed.

You wonder how many transfers only live in the virtual world of tabloids, twitter, agents and ITKs.
Can’t imagine Arsenal ever had any interest in signing Cesar. He was pretty pants last year for QPR. Oh well, it gives the moaners another opportunity to complain about Wenger’s alleged dithering.

He was Man of the Match when QPR played at The Emirates. He can be that bad if he played for Inter Milan! We need a decent goalkeeper, if it isn’t going to be Cesar who the effin hell is it going to be? Just more excuses for lack of investment.

Don’t be surprised Wenger doesn’t splash the cash. In such a case if the gunners can challenge right up to May,fans won’t complain. On the other hand if the gunners fail to challenge,he should frankly go instead of wasting more time to prove his philoso phy will work.I t anit work the last five years and it will be more time down the drain.
Let him go to PSG to work his philosophy.

Has anyone wondered why Cesar would want to come to the Emirates ? Wouldn’t he want game time before the World Cup ? The Big Pole is coming along nicely, but needs plenty of time on the park himself

The “Big Pole” is too error prone, possibly impeded by his massive head! Every top team needs a top GK, Szczesny is 4 years away from being good enough. He needs to learn from a good no. 1

Who told you Cesar was an arsenal target?
