Why this summer will be no different at Arsenal

|

Arsene WengerA good solid dose of yak’s breath. This is what is needed if Arsenal fans are to wake up and understand that this summer is not going to be any different from any previous one.

With the exception, perhaps, of one of our major ‘qualitee’ players leaving and throwing us all into crisis – though as I write, it seems the Germans have an eye on young Jack Wilshire, so it could well turn out to be exactly the same kind of summer as all the rest.

Stevan Jovetic. Gonzalo Higuain. Wayne Rooney. A £70 million ‘war chest’ to buy ‘world class’ players of ‘top, top qualitee’. That’s right – I said it twice. ‘Qualitee’. There’s a third. Get used to it. Because that’s all you are going to hear all summer long as we sign the usual mix of youth who have ‘amazing potential’ (Yaya Sanogo, anyone?), ‘experienced’ Premier League mediocrity (Ashley Williams, perchance?) and world class goalkeepers (Simon Mignolet, did I hear you say?). Nothing is going to change. No one, of any note, is going to come.

Whilst it may or may not be true that there is a sizeable ‘war chest’ (and what a laughable description that is), the problem is always going to be the same. Arsene Wenger. I don’t buy the stories that he’s had his hands tied all these years because of the stadium deal, or that he’s finally learned that the promise of youth isn’t enough to make you contenders.

The problem is that leopards don’t ever change their spots. And Wenger is certainly not about to change his. For example, Jovetic (so we are told) has a £24.5 million release clause in his contract. Wenger (so we are also told) won’t pay more than £20 or maybe £22 million for a single player. Same old, same old. Summer after summer. The money may be there. But I guarantee you he’s not going to spend it on the kind of players you and I want so dearly to see at The Emirates next season.

Yeh Yeh and I agree… there is but one difference… he should be fired NOW and the money given to the new guy whoever he is. Allow the new guy to get in some top quality – not some ‘kinter garten stars” who need nututring to maturity, or some 2nd rate French players like Giroud… We do not have the years to school young guys – another 4 years without any silver ware in any event – we finally see these “young stars” disappear never to be heard of again or – they truly do become stars only to be sold.
He is a people broker not a footbal club manager.

    • Sid says:

Yeah, lets sack him and give the job to erm, well, umm, it doesnt matter because they will obviously do a much better job whoever they are wont they? Moronic comment. The truth is Wenger has been hamstrung since the move and still managed to keep Arsenal in the top 4 and despite the lack of silverware, which is clearly killing all you glory hunters, the club are now, finally in good financial health, so that we do have a decent amount to spend this summer.

So, lets see how things pan out, instead of this pathetic hand wringing old bollocks.

    • pistolpete says:

well i would think the Ox, Wallcot, Wilshire, Jenkinson, Gibbs and Ramsey will all be around for a long time and they got good experience already so that is Six youngsters plus one or two others coming through then with the older ones there now i think the future is looking good.

    • Yellowboots says:

So which ‘great’ manager do you suggest bringing in? Martin O’Neil can do a job, oh and Penis Hat Pulis is available, I’m sure he’d spend some money….
      How quick you forget.

  • muantea says:

wtf r u talking about?? Let the transfer window open first. If we don’t buy at all, so be it. We’re more than capable. Last season, many new players had to gel. Look at the last 12 games, weren’t we the team with the most points? We re good enough. We are consistent enough. Just get on with the gaffer and the tream if u r a true arsenal fan.

  • Savage says:

Listen to the little girls screaming in panic at a cockroach.

Juve can’t sign both of Higuain and Jovetic, because they already have Llorente and they’re looking for one top partner for him.

  • Mr Creosote says:

Given our net spend has been the lowest in the league for many years now (because of the stadium, not because Wenger is tight), it is remarkable that we’re still where we are. Wenger has taken us through the most difficult period in our history, competing with clubs with bottomless reserves of money, and keeping us above teams who spend far more than we do. As far as i’m concerned he’s earned the right to spend what he likes on who he likes, and we supporters would do well to remember our place in the food chain: that is supporting our team to the hilt come what may.

    • pistolpete says:

Yes well said, Arsene has done a Great job with very little money and you tell me any other manager that has done so well with so little, there isn’t one.
      In Arsene we Trust!!!!

    • Sigh says:

We still have $250+ million in debt to pay off…

So I guess your “most difficult period in history” (boring and predictable rebuttal)will continue and you will have more sorry ass excuses when we don’t buy any quality this summer and remain uncompetitive next season as well.

PS: What is your excuse for losing to the likes of Bradford and Blackburn this season? Are their wage bills and net spend higher than ours?

Fucking dopey Wengerites. Start supporting Arsenal for once.

    • Mes says:

      Couldn’t agree less!

To move to a new fantastic stadium that Wenger himself designed and that our net spending for the last 9 seasons has been 10million, also not once slipping lower than fourth, add to that our star players leaving every seasons since 2005 and the media completely ripping us to bits like Wolves do, we have done amazing. With the squad we have now all we need is to replace any outgoing players with decent squad players, then add three top players, a GK, DM, ST = Cesar, Capoue, ST, and then we’ll compete for the league

  • Levent says:

So let me get this straight – the season has just ended and the bitching and negativity has already started?? An ex UTD legend (Gary Neville) stated himself that no other manager couldve achieved what Arsene achieved over 9 years with the limited funds due to a stadium move which was done to put the club in a far stronger position in the long run. How much do you really think we would have one if we were still at highbury with limited capacity and the likes of Abramovovich & the Dubai royal family pumping their riches into Chelsea and City?? We still wouldve won nothing!!! Least now we are in the position to financially challenge!! Wake up and smell the coffee & careful what you wish for hoping he leaves!!! We are now ready to really push on after a real solid end to the season so get behind your team and stop your negative useless BLOG – claiming to be a gooner??!! Give us all a bad name!!

    • Sigh says:

      He’s a Gooner and you’re a Wengerite. Big difference.

      • Levent says:

What?? This is football mate not some third world country in the grip of a dictator!!! IM a GOONER end of and Wenger happens to be our manager!! To be a supporter means to SUPPORT!! I merely look at the facts!!! I suppose Neville is a Wengerite to is he??He has more right to Wenger and us than anyone……its logic and its fact – based on nothing more or less…..you suuport through the good and the bad….anyone else took over during that period would not have managed as well…PERIOD!!

        • Sigh says:

How do you know that someone would not have managed as well? Did Wenger tell you this? I love how you guys base your unbridled Wenger support based on hypothetical situations. Why don’t you start quoting Wikpedia as a reliable source of information as well?

Oh, Neville also stated, in that commentary, that Arsenal had no more debt and that due to Wenger’s frugal approach he successfully alleviated Arsenal PLC of their external debt obligations. I guess he missed the 250mn quid of long-term debt that resides on Arsenal PLC’s balance sheet as of now. In other words Neville isn’t always right. But I imagine if he continues to praise Wenger you will see no wrong. That is what zealots do;)

          Keep it Wengerite!

      • Sid says:

You are pathetic. You demand intelligent responses and all you have is to call people akb’s or Wengerites?

        Hahahaha! You’re pathetic

        • Sigh says:

I realized that trying to have fruitful or intelligent debate with such sycophants as yourself (Wikipedia that word if need be) that I would be fighting a losing battle.

Now keep on keeping on Wengerite, while I choose to support the club (a shame you can’t discern the difference between the two). Now that is pathetic.

        • Sid says:

So, how do you go about supporting the club? You gonna pretend you actually go to games? Dont tell me, you are on a one woman protest and refuse to spend any money in an attempt to force the board’s hand and sack Wenger.

  • jp says:

Whilst this article sounds very harsh when first reading it I understand the sentiment wholeheartedly. It feels like the same train ride as the previous 8 years minus losing a world class player (because we don’t really have an established one left that anybody wants). It is hard to expect anything different. And that is what I have done I have changed my expectations regarding my beloved Arsenal. We are not that/those others. Neymar to Barca……Done deal…..Falcao to wherever! We are not in the market for those types of players anymore, I have reached the acceptance stage. It is what it is. Point blank….period.

  • PaulB says:

All the deluded AKBs we have is a joke, can’t see Wenger doping any wrong, his deadwood signings on excellent wages, his lack of ambition to finish top four, disregards all the domestic trophies, simply makes up the numbers in the CL with an ambition of reaching the QF, never his fault, his tactics, his mismanagement of players, his failure to grasp what’s wrong with his defensive tactics, his lack of passion and bottle missing from the team. Put the job of Arsenal manager out on the market and you will see who applies for it, all this crap about who do we replace him with?, easy someone who’s prepared to take the club forward instead of making money then wasting it on dross players with their high wages. Wenger’s signings, Wenger’s tactics, Wenger’s formation, Wenger’s lack of insight. He is finished and if any other club is daft enough to take him, good luck because he will ruin you as he has done with Arsenal and Monaco.

    • pistolpete says:

HaHa that is the biggest load of rubbish i have read, utter Crap!!!!

      • Sigh says:

Why is it? I will take Klopp over Wenger anyday.

And yes there are more managers available other than Klopp.

        • pistolpete says:

Yes and Chelsea and City have taken on all these wonderful managers and spent Millions on players and then sacked them, Chelsea a new manager nearly every year, Arsene any day for me.

        • Sigh says:

Care to mention those teams’ trophy haul over the same time and compare it to the stable Arsenal?

          Didn’t think so.

      • Sid says:

Yep, you will take Klopp over Wenger obviously, because Klopp managed to finish 25 points off the top and lost a final. He is perfect to follow Wenger isnt he!

    • GoonerDave says:

Does the AKB even exist? Are there actually fans who believe our great manager can do no wrong? That would be very unreasonable and immature.
Just like thinking the man can do nothing right – childish and lazy.
At some point, the fans who want Wenger to be sacked are going to have to accept that there are fans who believe Arsene is the right man for the job, and that these same fans actually believe our manager also has flaws.
Its not about whether a human being is infallible or not – its simply that different fans see different angles to our club.
How you could ever expect to have a reasonable debate with anyone while using the very tired “AKB” term is beyond me.
Why not just discuss the Loch Ness monster, the Yeti or other fictional characters?

      • Sid says:

        GoonerDave

It doesnt exist, or should I say, they dont exist, just an inane immature response to those who hate the manager. Anyone who doesnt have the same vitriolic reaction to him, is clearly in awe of his greatness and can see no wrongs!

Utter bollocks of course, yet twats like the few on here would have you believe it so.

Of course there are managers out there and we will need another one soon enough. Still doesnt mean we have to join in with this warped hate-fest.

Its embarrassing beyond words. Its not like we are talking about Arry effin Redknapp FFS!

        • Sigh says:

Same immature way the non-AKBs (and yes AKBs do exist as many on this thread alone exemplifies) are villified and told to go and support another club for expressing their disappointment season after season.

Non-AKBs are intelligent enough to know that there remains a difference between Arsenal FC and Arsene Wenger. Should try it sometime…

        • Sigh says:

          Oh really?

          Alright lets test your claim.

What do you think Wenger has done and keeps getting wrong with his managerial approach?

  • Sigh says:

Good post and even better prediction.

Don’t let all these Wenger zealots/sycophants/fans get you down. They are all now conditioned to accept mediocre players and performances and actually believe that we haven’t regressed in the last several years,=.

They make up theories and stories to justify their unbridled support for a man that no longer has the appetite to be a winner. They repeat these theories to the point where they actually believe it to be the truth.

In the end the likes of Sanogogo and Granier will be the level of signings that Arsenal will engage, again, in this summer. And we will be subject to the same excuses as to why we didn’t add sufficient quality from both Wenger and his cheerleaders.

What is the definition of insanity again?

  • Nature says:

Wenger has fail with his stupid policy and french scam players he need to change is tactice to be able to compete with others.instead going for world class quality players we go in for french shit player like new viera, new zidane, new henry and at the end become weeds fuck u wenger

  • Jo says:

    Lots of faggots here.

Whining at anybody who are critical to Wengers transferpolicies. All off you faggots need another trophyless year before youb realise whats going on…??!?

    Naive farts!
