THREE men who could potentially replace Sagna

|

Bacary SagnaWith Bacary Sagna’s future still up in the air, after rejecting a one-year extension to his existing contract which expires summer 2014, and with PSG and Inter Milan reportedly interested in the Frenchman, Arsene Wenger needs to have a contingency plan in place, just in case the 30-year-old does decide to call it quit at Arsenal this summer.

We have the promising Carl Jenkinson ready to step up to the plate. But many believe the youngster will not be able to handle the intensity and pressure of a full season.

I personally would love to see Jenko go straight into the first-team next season, if Sagna does leave.

However, the fact will remain that we will need to replace the experience of the French right-back – Jenkinson will need to learn off someone.

So if Sagna does make the move to PSG or Inter this summer, who should we look to bring in as a suitable replacement?

Well here are THREE right-backs who I believe would do the trick at Arsenal:

1. Micah Richards

Although recent reports claim Manchester City are set to offer him a new deal until 2017, Richards may well turn down it down after losing his place in the starting line-up to Pablo Zabaleta and being subjected to the bench for the majority of the season.

The 24-year-old made just eight appearances in all competitions for the former Premier League champions (a knee injury didn’t help his cause) and will need to play more regularly if he if is to have any chance of making Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the World Cup next year. He could get another chance under new management at City next season. But following a string of injuries and limited appearances, this may not be the case.

The Emirates would be an ideal destination for the England international as he is a big fan of the club and, in the past, stated he would love to join Wenger’s side if the opportunity arose.

He would certainly fit the bill at Arsenal as he has plenty of Premier League experience under his belt and has great defensive capabilities. And under Wenger’s tutelage, Richards could become a world-class right-back in the near future.

The City full-back is tied down until 2015, which may pose a bit of a problem though. However, The Gunners have cash to splash and could make this move happen if they want him this summer.

I’m sure City would consider selling him if the price was right.
