Why this summer will be no different at Arsenal

|

Arsene WengerA good solid dose of yak’s breath. This is what is needed if Arsenal fans are to wake up and understand that this summer is not going to be any different from any previous one.

With the exception, perhaps, of one of our major ‘qualitee’ players leaving and throwing us all into crisis – though as I write, it seems the Germans have an eye on young Jack Wilshire, so it could well turn out to be exactly the same kind of summer as all the rest.

Stevan Jovetic. Gonzalo Higuain. Wayne Rooney. A £70 million ‘war chest’ to buy ‘world class’ players of ‘top, top qualitee’. That’s right – I said it twice. ‘Qualitee’. There’s a third. Get used to it. Because that’s all you are going to hear all summer long as we sign the usual mix of youth who have ‘amazing potential’ (Yaya Sanogo, anyone?), ‘experienced’ Premier League mediocrity (Ashley Williams, perchance?) and world class goalkeepers (Simon Mignolet, did I hear you say?). Nothing is going to change. No one, of any note, is going to come.

Whilst it may or may not be true that there is a sizeable ‘war chest’ (and what a laughable description that is), the problem is always going to be the same. Arsene Wenger. I don’t buy the stories that he’s had his hands tied all these years because of the stadium deal, or that he’s finally learned that the promise of youth isn’t enough to make you contenders.

The problem is that leopards don’t ever change their spots. And Wenger is certainly not about to change his. For example, Jovetic (so we are told) has a £24.5 million release clause in his contract. Wenger (so we are also told) won’t pay more than £20 or maybe £22 million for a single player. Same old, same old. Summer after summer. The money may be there. But I guarantee you he’s not going to spend it on the kind of players you and I want so dearly to see at The Emirates next season.

  • Jack says:

Your such a dramaqueen, Jack is under longterm contract and loves the club. Wenger has stated that his not selling Jack to any club. Just becouse some other club wants him and are gona pay up dont mean we have to sell…sigh.

    • Rob Fisher says:

      Hi Jack,

I actually think you are right. Wilshire’s love of the club is probably what will keep him with us – but then we thought the same with Cesc, Sami, and a whole bunch of others!

      • emma says:

did Fabregas not disappoint all us, this players are scam.

        • luiz says:

What would you do? If you had a less ambitious coach who cares about nothing but money. If you can’t wear a cup ring then get the money. Nobody wants to lose it all. Cpl spot finish as cup and least paid! If cesc, samir, RVP or song stayed, i would think the are fools. Let’s be honest. You would do same

      • Darius says:

Well, cesc already had barca in his heart. Can’t blame him. Cesc was the only arsenal player whom i believed really loved the club. He is not going to play for any another club other than barca and arsenal. Nasri only knows how to talk bullcrap. I believe Wilshere will at least stay for a few seasons.

    • PaulB says:

When Jack realises under the clown Wenger he won’t win any trophies and nothing will change, then I would expect him to search elsewhere for silverware and why not, Wenger is a fool who puts profit before trophies, he is a scam artist, a conman, a liar who spouts the same nonsense every season. Nothing has changed for eight seasons and nothing with with this clown in charge.

    • Wenger has said many times that he wants to buy quality players but what..for a dime? Action speaks louder than words. So lets see if he acts but then again ‘old habits die hard’.

  • pistolpete says:

Why so Glum all the time let’s just wait and see, the window not even open yet and people slagging Arsene off.

    • Rob Fisher says:

yeah, I know. It’s easy to get wound up when you know other clubs are already going at it hammer and tongs to get new players and it seems like, yet again, we’re not doing anything! Frustration speaks!

      • pistolpete says:

I think you will find Arsene does not like to say too much before the transfer is done, let’s wait and see.

  • Sid says:

I only popped in to this pathetic, miserable, hit whoring s(h)ite to let you know what a complete eunuch* you are. Utterly gutless and full of wanky media filled bile.

    Pffft.

    * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eunuch

    • Rob Fisher says:

ahh, you are too kind. The problem is, if you read to the final paragraph, is that the point of a eunuch is that they are loyal and reliable servants – in this case, after 25 years, of Arsenal football club!

      • Sid says:

So, you admit you dont have any balls then? 🙂

Wow! You are older than 14 then? That is embarrassing. Can’t believe you can spout such lazy talkspite style drivel and still purport to be a supporter as well…

The post if full of names fed to you by the media, nothing substantiated anywhere; Rooney FFS! Get a grip.

        • Sigh says:

Why do AKBs simply resort to name calling and telling people to go support another club?

Is it a) that you guys lack the intelligence to provide an adequate response, b) that you know that your opposition is correct and you are too much of a AKB to admit it or c) you are more than happy with being a mediocre team who simply makes up the numbers in every competition they play?

So why don’t you try and explaining yourself, in an intelligent and articulate manner, why you disgree with the author of this post so much? Try a little harder then stating In Arsene We Trust and calling other people names. Bet you can’t.

        • Sid says:

Why do AKBs simply resort to name calling and telling people to go support another club?
          ——————

You are too thick to even understand why I am laughing at you, numb nuts. I’ll give you a hint; name calling. Twat.

The transfer window isnt even open and we have to put up with lazy media fuelled bollocks?

If you want intelligent debate, what the fuck are you doing trolling on this site?

  • afc says:

I also just cannot see Arsene wenger splashing the cash this season. when I think more and more about it I just think he will go hard in on a few young French guys and that’s that. I mean who else can we really get? the best thing about it is this will be wengers last season. he wont buy so arsenal wont win anything so hes dead man walking really

    • Rob Fisher says:

I agree completely. The same tell-tale signs are already there; he’s mentioned twice recently about having to clear out old and unwanted players first (which is exactly the line he took last year), and all the talk over the last week has been about adding young French talent. If we really do have 70 million and we are genuinely interested in top players, then I’m not sure why Higuain and Jovetic are still on the market and being linked with Juve. It should already be a done deal.
btw – I really do hope we’re both wrong!

    • pistolpete says:

      What Rubbish!!!!

      • Sigh says:

        Why is it rubbish?

What part don’t you agree with exactly?

Because I, and many others, completely agree that it will simply be another run of the mill transfer window. History tends to repeat itself IMO.

So what makes you so sure that this summer is going to be so much different?

        • pistolpete says:

Some of you are so negative, we already have the makings of a very good side and only need about 3 new players and the window not open yet so just give Arsene time before you all keep slagging him off.

        • Sigh says:

So 8 years isn’t enough time?

You still haven’t elaborated as to why you think the above was rubbish?

Why are people so negative? Have you just started watching Arsenal this season or is it a trick question?

        • Sid says:

awww diddums, its been 8 years of wishing you had picked the chavs or mancs to support. I bet it must be sooooo paidful in the playground having to suffer all the slings and arrows of the school kids.

You should have picked a different team to be a glory hunter of.

        • Sigh says:

Ahhh, Wengerites and their lack of any actual rebuttals return again.

Le Prof got your tongue up his backside again? Bet you asked him to do it in the first place.

Mediocre fans for a now mediocre club.

But we have the balance sheet in all the land!! And fourth place of course…

        • Sid says:

Not denying it are you. Glory hunter.

Its a shame that an ex-manc like gary neville knows more about what the manager has done for this club than so-called fans like you.

        • Sigh says:

I didn’t realize wanting succcess for one’s club was a bad thing?

Wow, Wenger really has brainwashed you, huh?

          Fourth place is a trophy!!!

  • Trennon says:

I’m pretty confident we’ll make a couple of excellent signings but I doubt it will be the names being thrown around. The fact is we were never interested in Jovetic or Higs and frankly I’d much rather have a proven prem striker like Benteke. I think Giroud is gonna back 25+ next season. I’d much prefer the majority of the money spent on left wing and midfield. We need to create more goal scoring opportunities.

  • Trophyless gunner says:

maybe he is scared to spend big n later fails to liftup to da expectations. AW KNOWS THAT FAILING AFTER SPENDING BIG CAN LEAD TO SEVERE PRESSURE FROM BOARD, FANS & MEDIA n so he may decide not to spend big.

  • silentstan says:

why dont you wait till the window is closed before you bitch

  • Bigsix says:

As much as I want to say you are write in saying if we were talking past, but not this time.
Few players (not all quality according to our different judgements) will come for one reason.
His contract comes to and end, next season, and this is his last chance and he knows it.
If Rooney would accept R 200K a week, he would be one of them.
All in all, his summer spendings will be above R 43K.

    • Mes says:

I hate when I hear or read people going on with this “Rooney would come to Arsenal if so and so” or “Fergie has to sell him after we handed him the title with Robin” !!!!!! Get a grip you mugs we will not sign Rooney, it’s absolutely absurd to think the club had the thought even fly through their minds! You have a better chance of David Cameron managing the club!

  • Paul says:

Not even out of May! Window hasn’t even started! And the same old whiners are shouting loud!

  • George says:

This story is so forced. You’re a typical negative Arsenal fan that materialises negative stories about Wenger and our club. First of all Wilshere isn’t leaving this summer that is certain so you can dismiss that BS u wrote about him going Germany. Did you ever think about it from a realistic point of view? Maybe just maybe Gazidis tries winning the fans over by saying we will spend to make it look like he is the good guy to let Wenger take the blame for our under achievements why? Because what manager in his right mind would limit his own resources? Why would he be given lets say 40mil to spend (supposedly) and spend 20mil would Wenger want to sell his star players? No, no manager would. Would Gazidis like to generate revenue and give our Mansger a spend what you make budget knowing he will make money in the transfer window and secure CL football? Yes. Why? Because Gazidis wouldn’t care about trophies only thing he cares about is money so blame him for our past transfer windows not Wenger. Thirdly you mentioned we sign youngsters every season because Podolski (27) Giroud (25) and Cazorla (27) are all inexperienced players aren’t they? Instead of praising a signing of a 20 year old striker with 7 goals in 6 appearances you managed to find the negative in that too. Very supportive
