Is Wenger having a laugh or what?

Has Arsene Wenger lost it or is he simply having a laugh? Well it seems like it after his recent interview in the Daily Mirror.

The Frenchman has somewhat tried to break potential bad news gently to us by claiming the Europa League is in fact ‘fantastic’. Really? A competition which is basically a poor mans Champions League. A competition which will see us potentially tune in to Channel 5 and ITV4 on Thursday nights and see the oh-so vigilant Jim Rosenthal and know-it-all Stan Collymore. A competition which is not taken or seen seriously by the bigger clubs around Europe, and rightly so. Oh you mean that fantastic competition Mr. Wenger?

For all of you who haven’t read his latest statement, here is what the Wiley Frenchman said:

‘Personally, I don’t feel it’s a useless competition. What’s a useless competition for you? For me, a good competition is when you see two good teams play a good game. I watched Bilbao and Atletico Madrid and I watched the whole game, didn’t miss a second.

‘You see a fantastic football team. That’s what competition has to produce – fantastic football games. There are some boring Champions League games but of course you want to be in the Champions League.

‘When you play Thursday night and Sunday it’s exactly the same as Wednesday night and Saturday. If you ask me if we prefer the Champions League to Europa League then you are completely right.

‘We want to be in the Champions League, we don’t want to be in the Europa League. You play where you have to and it’s better to play there than not at all.’

If I had to pick between Europa League football or no European football at all, Personally, I would pick the latter, that’s how poor I view the Europa League – the name of the competition itself is an absolute joke.

Wenger shouldn’t be considering the possibility of our club playing Europa League football next season. He should be concentrating on tomorrow’s game and getting the three points we need to seal a certain Champions League spot. Nothing else matters at this particular time, and failure to do this could potentially spell disaster for Arsenal FC and retaining the services of Robin van Persie.

What do you guys think – Would you embrace the Europa League should we fail to qualify for the Champions League next season?

He was asked a question and he answered it truthfully and respectfully. You’re a spoilt little twat and I want the last 2 mins of my life back. The rise of the idiots is in effect

So the Europa League is fantastic is it? You’re as deluded as Wenger mate! Dropped your standards and think top four is an accomplishment. Arsenal should be challenging for titles you twat! Wenger is bigging up a competition he once took the piss out of!

Its a european competition … big clubs from top leagues play in it!

What is wrong with people ? You play to win and should be happy you get the chance to compete!

And a team like arsenal, how many youngsters and fringe players would get a chance to play in it

Frankly, i would be happy to watch the extra games, would be terrible if the arsenal were not playing weeknights anymore.

The one positive thing that would come out of the europa league is a further chance for us to include some up and coming youngsters and reserve players. I doubt that we would play a League Cup team in the competition, unless the result did not matter, but we might give extra games to the likes of Coquelin, Miquel, Jenkinson etc etc… and I think that could be valuable.

Although obviously like everyone I am hoping for the Champs League this afternoon.
