Is Wenger having a laugh or what?

Has Arsene Wenger lost it or is he simply having a laugh? Well it seems like it after his recent interview in the Daily Mirror.

The Frenchman has somewhat tried to break potential bad news gently to us by claiming the Europa League is in fact ‘fantastic’. Really? A competition which is basically a poor mans Champions League. A competition which will see us potentially tune in to Channel 5 and ITV4 on Thursday nights and see the oh-so vigilant Jim Rosenthal and know-it-all Stan Collymore. A competition which is not taken or seen seriously by the bigger clubs around Europe, and rightly so. Oh you mean that fantastic competition Mr. Wenger?

For all of you who haven’t read his latest statement, here is what the Wiley Frenchman said:

‘Personally, I don’t feel it’s a useless competition. What’s a useless competition for you? For me, a good competition is when you see two good teams play a good game. I watched Bilbao and Atletico Madrid and I watched the whole game, didn’t miss a second.

‘You see a fantastic football team. That’s what competition has to produce – fantastic football games. There are some boring Champions League games but of course you want to be in the Champions League.

‘When you play Thursday night and Sunday it’s exactly the same as Wednesday night and Saturday. If you ask me if we prefer the Champions League to Europa League then you are completely right.

‘We want to be in the Champions League, we don’t want to be in the Europa League. You play where you have to and it’s better to play there than not at all.’

If I had to pick between Europa League football or no European football at all, Personally, I would pick the latter, that’s how poor I view the Europa League – the name of the competition itself is an absolute joke.

Wenger shouldn’t be considering the possibility of our club playing Europa League football next season. He should be concentrating on tomorrow’s game and getting the three points we need to seal a certain Champions League spot. Nothing else matters at this particular time, and failure to do this could potentially spell disaster for Arsenal FC and retaining the services of Robin van Persie.

What do you guys think – Would you embrace the Europa League should we fail to qualify for the Champions League next season?

What a dickhead you are. AW is just being realistic about what we face. Clearly you’re one of these idiots that thinks he should spend 100 trillion pounds on proven talent and reduce ticket prices to 50p. twat

    • The Goon says:

Dickhead Arsenal should be challenging for titles not contemplating whether or not they’ll be in Champions League or not!

you are the most stupid arsenal fan on earth and jupiter….europa league is definately not in the same status as the champions league but its a competition that deserves respects and that is exactly what wenger has given it…respect. you are so much used to champions league till you insult the one who gives it to you year in year out..grow up

Mr. Wenger it is time to raise the bar!

For the past 6 seasons the only ambition Arsene n Arsenal had was finishing 4th! No matter what we did, we could not raise ourselves above that bar. Low expectation….

Now it appears that we have reached panic stations again. By talking Right n walking Left.

Arsenal has to cut deep and add quality, but not just anyone. But players that will add balance and ready to go to the next level.

Still tinkering in defence, learning to hold the ball, and not being able to read the game is for reserve players. Is Arsenal going out to win tomorrow or playing nerve ball?

He is not stupid, he is building the ground in case Arsenal come up in there and it is possible. so in case its happens, he will not look so bad as it is now.

  • Redsta says:

If you cant see why he replied to a reporter like that then your the fucking stupid one.
I guess any prat can have a fucking blog these days.

I’m not sure about your actual age but when grown ups want to help other grown ups relax and give of their best, it’s often a useful approach to not let them believe that their failure might herald the end of the World.

I have to agree with the poster who suggested that this was a “waste of a post”.

Unfortunately I don’t now believe it is in Wenger’s mandate to be winning titles and trophies. I believe he is just asked to do as well as he can on a shoestring transfer budget- while we aim for profit maximisation rather than sporting success. Selling our best players when a big fee is received is normal, replacing them with a cheap otion is normal, signing players just to capitalise on expanding international markets without ever playing them is normal, now we have even cancelled our normal training camps to go on money spinning tours instead. Meanwhile Usmanov has been marginalised as a pariah despite being our second largest shareholder and making the kind of statements fans want to hear about us really pushing on as a club on the field- I ask you, can he and his team be any worse than Kroenke, Gazidis and co?

  • John says:

Daily Mail, okay let me repeat this, Daily Mail. Reading this is already bad, quoting from it is…… Why an Arsenal blog would sink so low is beyond me, ah I get it now, click whoreing. Consider yourselves blocked.

  • John says:

Ah just noticed it’s Daily Mirror, not that it changes anything I said before of course. I just cannot believe that anyone with a mediocum of dignity would still read any of the gutter press.
