Is Wenger having a laugh or what?

Has Arsene Wenger lost it or is he simply having a laugh? Well it seems like it after his recent interview in the Daily Mirror.

The Frenchman has somewhat tried to break potential bad news gently to us by claiming the Europa League is in fact ‘fantastic’. Really? A competition which is basically a poor mans Champions League. A competition which will see us potentially tune in to Channel 5 and ITV4 on Thursday nights and see the oh-so vigilant Jim Rosenthal and know-it-all Stan Collymore. A competition which is not taken or seen seriously by the bigger clubs around Europe, and rightly so. Oh you mean that fantastic competition Mr. Wenger?

For all of you who haven’t read his latest statement, here is what the Wiley Frenchman said:

‘Personally, I don’t feel it’s a useless competition. What’s a useless competition for you? For me, a good competition is when you see two good teams play a good game. I watched Bilbao and Atletico Madrid and I watched the whole game, didn’t miss a second.

‘You see a fantastic football team. That’s what competition has to produce – fantastic football games. There are some boring Champions League games but of course you want to be in the Champions League.

‘When you play Thursday night and Sunday it’s exactly the same as Wednesday night and Saturday. If you ask me if we prefer the Champions League to Europa League then you are completely right.

‘We want to be in the Champions League, we don’t want to be in the Europa League. You play where you have to and it’s better to play there than not at all.’

If I had to pick between Europa League football or no European football at all, Personally, I would pick the latter, that’s how poor I view the Europa League – the name of the competition itself is an absolute joke.

Wenger shouldn’t be considering the possibility of our club playing Europa League football next season. He should be concentrating on tomorrow’s game and getting the three points we need to seal a certain Champions League spot. Nothing else matters at this particular time, and failure to do this could potentially spell disaster for Arsenal FC and retaining the services of Robin van Persie.

What do you guys think – Would you embrace the Europa League should we fail to qualify for the Champions League next season?

What exactly did you want him to say? its shit and we will refuse to play in it if we are 5th?
Lately, whatever Wenger says is jumped on and attacked by these so-called fan sites. Get over yourselves! Read what he says – “We want to be in the Champions League, we don’t want to be in the Europa League.”

And I would rather win the Europa Cup than the Carling Cup. And I would rather finish 4th than win the FA Cup.
And when we win tomorrow and finish 3rd – you know where to stick this pedantic and utterly pointless article.

If we are in the Europa League, we might have a shot at winning a trophy

  • Ryan goon says:

This means nothing we win and were in champions league . Waste of a post !!

  • Domhuaille MacMathghamhna says:

Hey Goon……….couldn’t you think of something intelligent to write rather than rehashing the same shite every other crapblog like yours is wasting their time repeating?
AW was simply comparing the CL to the EL and rightly said that end very big team prefers CL participation.
He knows nobody will take a team seriously when they are in the EL (Cheatski,Spuds,Liverpool or whomever)and that morons like you will misunderstand his intent…since that’s what morons liek you do…so he tries to make it simple for simpletons like you…but it was still to complicated.

I think he was asked about that mug right back down the road and his comments.

What a ridiculous article, if you cannot find anything legitimate to have a go at Wenger about lets invent something. I can only guess you are a dedicated Wenger hater looking for any opportunity (however weak) to criticise him. Wengers statement is full of good sense and respect for the competition. He emphasises his preference for the Champions league whilst acknowledging the fact that the Europa league is an admirable competition in it’s own right. I enjoyed plenty of games in it last season, especially those involving Athletico Bilbao. The goon is definitely an appropriate name for you.

Mick, you hit the nail right on the head. Some sadistic Wenger haters just can’t help themselves.

    • The Goon says:

Respect for the competition? wasn’t Wenger the one who called it a mickey mouse cup a few years ago? Isn’t he the man, along with Ferguson, who played/plays second string sides in the FA and Carling Cup – great respect there ay? You may be brainwashed by Wenger’s garbage and accept fourth place and Champions League football year in year out, but I’m not. I respect the man, but he needs to get back to where he was or leave.

  • Pablo says:

How stupid are you? Stupid enough to read and believe what is printed in the Daily Mirror I guess! Do you also believe Arsenal Wenger does interviews with the Daily Mirror? IDIOT!

    • The Goon says:

Believe what the Mirror says? Mate its all over the press. quotes are quotes regardless what newspaper they’re in! IDIOT!

  • ….here we go again!
I am simply tired of Mr Wenger determining ‘what is success’ for the club UNILATERALLY. I say No! No!! No!!!

  • Jakey says:

More concerned about the comments surrounding lack of transfer activity. What are we 20 points off top and the Boss doesn’t think he will be strengthening the squad. Au Revoir RVP 🙁
