Just how good is Wenger?

So what of the boss? Will Arsenal succeed without him, or will we lose our spot among Europe’s best? As he has kept us in it ever since joining the club, not to forget the honours he has brought to Arsenal before the seven year drought.

Firstly, I want to talk about the topic he is most criticised for, which is not spending enough on big-name players. This in my eyes is very unjust. To begin, I firmly believe the board and owners are the ones controlling the cash. What can he do if he is not funded? The owners know what the fans have been raging about and they are the ones in control of the money.

I hate to admit it, but we operate like a selling club because we don’t seem to replace the stars we sell, such as Cesc Fabregas. From the boards view you can see the sense in appointing Arsene as the manager 16 years ago as at the time he won the league championship with AS Monaco. However, more importantly, Wenger had an economics degree. Do you see where I’m going with this? The club wanted him to generate cash which he has done. But Arsene is a loyal and honest man who loves football and Arsenal FC. As well as making money for the club, the Frenchman has created ‘The Invinicbles’ and won us trophies, making him our most successful manager ever. So we cannot doubt his ability as a manager. David Dein described him as a ‘miracle worker’ because of Wenger’s consistency working with minimal resources.

The point I am trying to make is that without Wenger I don’t think we could stay in the top four or have the slightest chance of wining anything. Simply because no other manager will be able to compete without these resources, but Arsene makes it work, without spending over 10 million. That shows his ability as a manager and should never be doubted, and I am sure signings in the summer will be made, as the people above Wenger know we were dangerously close to missing out on the Champions League, which would of meant missing out on some money and dealing with a lot of criticism. But Wenger saved us despite some fans calling for his head. We recovered greatly, meanwhile Liverpool have been out of it for two seasons now and were not able to recover.

This is our worst season and yet we are still fourth and it’s looking like we might still finish above Spurs, who are having their best season in a very long time.

Wenger has brought in many class players over the years, but the problem in my opinion was that they weren’t loyal enough to fulfil the manager’s targets and were tempted away with cash and/or titles which they could have won with Arsenal if they stayed loyal. I’m saying this because we lose a class player every season and last season we lost two, Samir Nasri and Fabregas. I know Fabregas was always going to go back to his boyhood club Barcelona, but just imagine the likes of Robin van Persie, Nasri and Fabregas, along with our current other class players. Wenger was creating a world class team, but the problem was that the players couldn’t wait for him, plus the clubs wage structure is unattractive compared to Manchester City’s and this is where we find the ex-Gunner Nasri, who mostly occupies the bench.

So the fans should always keep faith in Le Prof because I don’t think anyone else can do a better job at the club. Every other top manager has access to millions to form their squad, but Wenger doesn’t and still comes good.
