Just how good is Wenger?

So what of the boss? Will Arsenal succeed without him, or will we lose our spot among Europe’s best? As he has kept us in it ever since joining the club, not to forget the honours he has brought to Arsenal before the seven year drought.

Firstly, I want to talk about the topic he is most criticised for, which is not spending enough on big-name players. This in my eyes is very unjust. To begin, I firmly believe the board and owners are the ones controlling the cash. What can he do if he is not funded? The owners know what the fans have been raging about and they are the ones in control of the money.

I hate to admit it, but we operate like a selling club because we don’t seem to replace the stars we sell, such as Cesc Fabregas. From the boards view you can see the sense in appointing Arsene as the manager 16 years ago as at the time he won the league championship with AS Monaco. However, more importantly, Wenger had an economics degree. Do you see where I’m going with this? The club wanted him to generate cash which he has done. But Arsene is a loyal and honest man who loves football and Arsenal FC. As well as making money for the club, the Frenchman has created ‘The Invinicbles’ and won us trophies, making him our most successful manager ever. So we cannot doubt his ability as a manager. David Dein described him as a ‘miracle worker’ because of Wenger’s consistency working with minimal resources.

The point I am trying to make is that without Wenger I don’t think we could stay in the top four or have the slightest chance of wining anything. Simply because no other manager will be able to compete without these resources, but Arsene makes it work, without spending over 10 million. That shows his ability as a manager and should never be doubted, and I am sure signings in the summer will be made, as the people above Wenger know we were dangerously close to missing out on the Champions League, which would of meant missing out on some money and dealing with a lot of criticism. But Wenger saved us despite some fans calling for his head. We recovered greatly, meanwhile Liverpool have been out of it for two seasons now and were not able to recover.

This is our worst season and yet we are still fourth and it’s looking like we might still finish above Spurs, who are having their best season in a very long time.

Wenger has brought in many class players over the years, but the problem in my opinion was that they weren’t loyal enough to fulfil the manager’s targets and were tempted away with cash and/or titles which they could have won with Arsenal if they stayed loyal. I’m saying this because we lose a class player every season and last season we lost two, Samir Nasri and Fabregas. I know Fabregas was always going to go back to his boyhood club Barcelona, but just imagine the likes of Robin van Persie, Nasri and Fabregas, along with our current other class players. Wenger was creating a world class team, but the problem was that the players couldn’t wait for him, plus the clubs wage structure is unattractive compared to Manchester City’s and this is where we find the ex-Gunner Nasri, who mostly occupies the bench.

So the fans should always keep faith in Le Prof because I don’t think anyone else can do a better job at the club. Every other top manager has access to millions to form their squad, but Wenger doesn’t and still comes good.

With every passing year he gets worse. Three titles in 16 years and only 1 Champions League final, which we lost, is not that good really.

Yes there has been a drought for a while, we don’t have the resources of the money clubs so when it was just us and united we had a fighting chance now with Chelsea’s, city’s and uniteds money to contend with we are just about sticking near them. If awesome arsene was given an open cheque book we would have won 3 times the league titles now. The guy is given minimal cash to compete without him we would be a mid table team at best

Wenger has brought us stability and the board profits. We are lucky to have Wenger as a manager, any other manager would have had their head turned by the offers from Real Madrid etc…

Football goes in cycles, some times are good, some not so good. The truth is, some of these so called fans don’t deserve to celebrate when things come good as they aren’t prepared to stand by things in the bad times. Shame.

The bottom line is you don’t know what you have ’til it’s gone. If we had got rid of Wenger during the transition to the Emirates then Arsenal would be Aston Villa, or possibly Everton. No other manager would have been able to keep us in the Champions League with minimal spending. When will people realise what we have, and that the grass is not always greener. How will you explain yourselves when the next manager that you all clamored for comes in, and we drop to mid-table mediocrity, and the CL becomes but a distant memory….?

I have always said exactly what you wrote today. Take AW to man city and I can assure you that no one can take the CL, EPL, FA etc in the next ten yrs. Mata would have been an Arsenal player,Fab and Nasri wouldn’t have gone, Hazard, Gozet, M’villa and Matias Suarez would have been coming in this summer. Tell me how Arsenal would not change with all these players playing along side some of present crops of players. Imagine how much Man city have spent in wages and transfer deals since the take over, they have only an FA cup to show for if am not mistaking and finishing only twice above us and never going beyong group qualifiers in the CL a feat well surpassed by AW. How much did liverpool spent last transfer window and what is league position now and what about chelsea? Truly we can only understand we have in AW only when we loss him to another club with this same board in place. Aw leaving Arsenal not have an effect even in world football as to talent development as I don’t see a better manager in this aspect than AW.

If you call yourself a real fan of Arsenal then you will stand by the club no matter what for you will know the policy of the club. Arsenal has never wasted time spending on BIG players because we run a self-sustaining business meaning we generate cash and manage the club with the case. Arsenal has been brilliant so far. Truly, we run a club the only way it should be.

Wikipedia described Arséne Wenger as the greatest manager because he won the Premier League with limited spending. The Invisible defence according to Wikipedia was around £5million. I have never had doubt with Arséne Wenger because I know what is at stake. Chelsea is unable to offload most old players; no one can pay their wages. Soon Manchester City will suffer the same. Ask Adebayo, he got the paycheck but he is not happy. If really he is a world-class player then it is an insult playing for Spurs. This is where his love for money has kept him.

Arséne Wenger remains the BEST and we still need him.

Arsenal(Arsene)Wenger.Arsene is Arsenal,Arsenal is Arsene.Give to AW one quarter of what Roberto Mancini is using and Arsenal FC will win titles.Only Arsenal defeated Barca in UEFA Champion in 2010/2011 season and we knew what could have happened if not for the wicked red card given to RVP in Spain. In AW I trust.

  • ASNLthruNthru says:

The expense of moving to Emirates has had a tremendous impact on Management decisions.Perhaps staying at Highbury would have allowed for more spending on players but would you really wish to continue there. It has taken us some years to adapt and we still have maintained competitiveness at the highest level. After all that has happened this season,if we manage 3rd ,keep RvP in our ranks and make 1 or 2 “special” acquisitions, then next season will be triumphal!! Well done Wenger!

How good is Wenger? How about this fact… no manager has ever spent less than Ferguson and beaten him to the Premier league title. It has never, ever happened. Fergie has spent less than others and won but no one has spent less than Fergie and won the title. No one that is apart from Wenger. And he’s done it 3 times. And here’s the thing; not only did Wenger beat Ferguson having spent significantly less money he also built unquestionably better teams too. That’s how good Wenger is… and Ferguson is one of the greatest managers ever.

Arsenal’s relative decline, and it is a RELATIVE decline not an absolute one as the club has grown year on year even in the last 6 years, has coincided with the stadium build. It is Wenger’s genius that means that the club could build a £400 million stadium and also remain competitive. The stadium meant that instead of competing against Ferguson on a 3rd of United’s money Arsenal had to compete with something like a 10th or even less. When you add in the appearance of Chelsea and Abrahamovic the question becomes why did Wenger choose to stay? We, the Arsenal fans, are the luckier ones not Wenger!

There are too many idiots who support our club and have no idea of the magnitude of what’s been achieved in the last 6 or 7 years. The media says no trophies and they nod like a bunch of nodding dogs. It’s your bloody club… inform yourselves!
