Arsenal have been linked with a shock move for Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton.

The Scouser made his thoughts clear yesterday about the exit of Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan and the former Manchester City man seemed to hint that he would be next. Barton tweeted:

‘Devastated to see him [Nolan] SOLD! #mejose[Enrique]andjonas[Gutierrez]next.’

Bookmakers SkyBet have cut Barton’s odds on joining Arsenal considerably with Arsene Wenger considering the tough-tackling midfielder to add some steel to his side.

Arsenal and Newcastle United face each other in the first game of the 2011/12 Premier League campaign in a repeat of the epic 4-4 draw from last season.

I sincerely hope this rumour isn’t true. Barton is a thug on and off the field and has no place in a respected Club like Arsenal.

If that`s the type of player we need no need to pay big money, infact no need to pay at all Wormwood Scrubs is full of them take your choice.
Just need a day pass on weekend.

It’s true we need a tough tackling combatative midfielder but he needs to have better ability on the ball than Barton surely. Even if he did have the neccessary talent I would not want him even on a free transfer, the guy is the epitome of scum- from his behaviour over the years, just what has become public knowledge, would not be suprised if he had a serious deviant personality disorder- certainly not welcome.

If the Barton story is true, then we can as well invite Showcross & Taylor to Arsenal.

Since the end of the Season,i have been recommending that Arsenal buy Joey Barton. Some other Gooners refer to his bad points, mainly his poor disclipinary record.Short memories Lads,do not forget that just a short while ago,we had a Midfielder with a similar record, who went on to be an Arsenal Legend (who though in my opinion was more sinned against than he sinned, and recieved disgraceful treatment from Referees).Barton has cleaned up his act considerably, his ‘Red Mist’ episodes have almost disappeared, and remember this, his tackle on Diaby was ‘Fair’and it was Diaby who overreacted, effectively costing us two points.Look at Barton’s good points,Skilful/Committed/Passionate,and in the two games he played against us last season he was the outstanding Player on the Pitch.I sincerely hope this is not a rumour, and we do buy him,it would cure most of our current Midfield problems

As far as I’ve heard, this is nothing other than the rumour mill creaking, no real interest in him.

Yeah, until the day comes when he loses it in the dressing room and stabs his cigar out in the eye of a team-mate.

  • Iain says:

    Don’t want him
