The over inflated ego of English transfer fees…and some Gooners!!!

(I know this is a bit late, should have posted earlier, but what the hell!)

Sometimes I struggle to understand the egos of some Gooners. We sign Carl Jenkinson, a player with potential by the bucket loads, and before he’s even kicked a ball in anger he is being ridiculed because of his lack of experience and his age. Give the guy a chance, he may have less than a season under his belt and might only be 19, but Jack and Cesc were younger than that when they first played for Arsenal, and they didn’t turn out all that bad!! Anyway, whatever happens he’s got to be better than Squillaci?

Arsene Wenger, is also being criticised, for not buying experience and missing out on players like Phil Jones and Jordan Henderson. A bit of a reality check is required one thinks!! The transfer window has been open a week or two and we are not renowned for our expediency in these matters. Claiming experience for the likes of Jones & Henderson is a bit of a contradiction. They have one season more than Jenkinson, and yes I know its Premier league experience, but just one season! As soon as we let a targets name out of the bag, Sheikh City and Chelski, bid over the top, double the salary, and we miss out. Let Wenger do his job and keep his cards close to his chest.

This leads onto another thing – the over inflated ego of English transfer fees is in full effect again.

Do you really blame Wenger for letting the likes of Jones (I know he chose to stay up North, but still a valid point) and Henderson pass us buy (pun intended) when they are demanding (and getting) £20 million for an England Under-21, or when £17 million is quoted for players like Gary Cahill (2 caps), do you really blame Wenger for his due consideration when players like Thomas Vermaelen are out there at half the price.

I know we have Kroenke’s money and all, but I just don’t get the over inflated English transfer prices, and don’t see why we should waste it on relatively unproven or overpriced players solely based on their passport.

In the real world what would you do – Andy Carroll £35 million or Gonzalo Higuain £15 million?

thankyou, someone who is a realist. it would be nice to see wenger spend money on big names but i dont give a shit who we sign as long as we are successful.

We don’t “have Kroenke’s money”. He owns the majority of the club, but has made no claims about investing his personal wealth for transfers. In fact, I think he’s said a number of times that he prefers Arsenl’s self-sustaining finacial policies. That was one of the club’s attractions for him.

Also, I don’t think I’ve heard many fans criticising Wenger for missing out on Henderson. Perhaps Jones, but not Henderson.

Lastly, again, I havn’t heard any ridicule being directed at Jenkinson personally, just anger at the fact that another player with “potential by the bucket load” is not what we need right now.

    Pointless article. Well done.

Agree entirely. These English players are so overpriced. little wonder Wenger only goes for the young and unestablished ones. All those gooners ranting don’t know anything about players except what the tabloids tell em n what they see on YouTube. Wenger watched Cesc 44 times before making the move, n we here screaming Cahill, Jones… names fed to the public by em papers. Rule on Arsene. if u lot r tired, there a club up road that will fulfil ur spending desires. There are even more clubs in the capital. Take ur whines some place else.

so basiclly being a chepa abstard and getting usless foerign players has really worked well the past 6-7 years hasnt it? Why not spend a few more money and spemoney on a proven premiership player? Or we cna spend 5 million on an unproven premiership player, like we have been doing the past 6-7 years. Dont brinf TV into the equation becaus elast time i checked we were shipping in goals even when he was at CB. Other than the fact he scores an odd goal here and there, he has bene part of the defensive problem.

You tlak about jenkinson and giving the guy a chance, see this is your problem, dont blame us supporters, instead of buying a an experinced player he gets another player with so called potentioal, and then you write give the guy a chancc, when that fails it will be oh wait its the arsenal supporters faul again. because its quiote obviuos we have bene buying sub standard footballers and paying them 60k+ a week for the past 7 years for reason other than the fact they are cheap, oh but i guess thats not a worry because those cheap foriegners have been doing us so great the past 7 years. oh WAIT NO THEY HAVNT.

lol…i bet jack should have a price tag around 45m since oh-carroll price 35m. yup i tottally agree, just compare caroll for 35m with less cap and benzema 20-26m?guys who would you prefer?…

  • Cjmaris says:

4 ur puzzle; ‘Andy Carol or Gonzalo Higuin’!
Even a taut knws whow to choose amongst them yl sleping-Higuin!!!

  • IvoryGoonz says:

To the question Carroll or Higuain, i think you miss one thing:
you still need at least 8 Home Grown players in your 25 man squad. Besides, they are not same kind of strikers, and would actually get both.
The ones to blame are not the clubs or the players, you’re all f**ing around and missing the point. It’s the governing body that is to blame.
And do you really think it’s gonna get better by “forcing” financial rules without actually involving players? Not gonna prevent some to ask for £400k a week.
And you can’t blame them, you can only blame the system and the people ruling it.
