Willian has revealed that talks over a new deal with Chelsea have come to a standstill, leaving the Brazilian free to talk to interested clubs including Arsenal and Tottenham.

The 32-year-old’s current contract at Stamford Bridge expires this summer and his request of a new three-year extension has been rejected by the London club.

Willian joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013, but as he approaches the age of 32 and with plenty of competition in his position, the Brazil international is now considering his options available to him.

The creative midfielder has previously stated that he wants to remain in London which will alert both Arsenal and Tottenham.

He told Fox Sports (via Metro):

‘Everyone knows that my contract ends now in a few months, so the renewal is really a difficult thing to happen.

‘I think it will be very difficult for me to renew because Chelsea offered me two years, I asked for three and it ended there, we don’t talk anymore, we didn’t negotiate anymore.

‘We don’t know what can happen, suddenly we could make a deal and get it right.

‘But what I can say today is that my contract is going over, and I will be free to negotiate with any team.’

Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his squad this summer and with Mesut Ozil’s contract set to expire next summer, Willian could be an ideal replacement.

The Gunners do have several options in midfield already but lack creativity.

Ozil and Dani Ceballos, who is set to return to Real Madrid when his loan spell ends in late-June, are the only two creative midfielders the Gunners have, and the potential inclusion of Willian would be an asset.

The Brazilian has also proved that he can operate on the flanks, as well as through the middle, where he can contribute assists and goals.

Willian wants to stay in London which will no doubt give Arsenal a huge boost in signing him this summer. The only competition for his signature looks to be Tottenham. They also stand a chance of landing him and working with Jose Mourinho may interest Willian.

In any case, Arsenal should keep tabs on Willian’s situation and make an offer for him as the Brazilian would make an excellent addition to Arteta’s side next season.
