The transfer window has now closed and the start of the Premier League season is upon us.
Arsenal saw a bit of activity on deadline day with the shock arrival of David Luiz whilst Alex Iwobi departed to Everton in a £34m deal.
Ahead of their Premier League opener against Newcastle in the first ‘Super Sunday’ of the season, a number of Arsenal fans have taken to social media to make it known who they would like to start the game.
That man is their latest arrival, Luiz.
The 32-year-old has plenty of experience in the Premier League having featured for local rivals Chelsea in two spells – where he made 248 appearances between 2011-2014 and 2016-2019.
One supporter said that Luiz better be starting on Sunday otherwise what was the point in signing him, claiming the club have a habit of signing players only to not utilise them.
The Gunners let go of club captain Laurent Koscielny to Bordeaux after his antics this summer whilst fellow central defender Shkodran Mustafi was booed on numerous occasions in pre-season so Luiz has every chance to be starting the game on Sunday.
Other fans said there is no reason why Luiz shouldn’t be starting against Newcastle whilst another Gooner simply labelled him ‘the king.’
Here’s the best of the reaction:
