Arsenal face a defensive crisis ahead of their opening Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday, with options slim on the left-side of defence.

The Gunners will be without Sead Kolasinac for the first ten weeks of the campaign due to injury and Nacho Monreal only returned to training this week following a knee injury sustained at the World Cup – which has left Ainsley Maitland-Niles the leading contender to feature against the Citizens.

However, The Daily Mail  states that Unai Emery is considering a late swoop for Switzerland international Ricardo Rodriguez to bolster his defensive depth – with Monreal having entered the final 12 months of his contract and likely to leave next year.

25-year-old Rodriguez signed for AC Milan from Wolfsburg last summer and the Serie A side are keen to retain his services, said to be demanding a figure of around £30m in order to approve a sale.

Arsenal already have two Swiss players in their squad at the Emirates Stadium in the form of Stephan Lichtsteiner and Granit Xhaka.
