New Arsenal boss Unai Emery has focused on defensive additions so far in the summer transfer market but he could be set to target additions in more attacking areas.

The Gunners are understood to be in the market for a winger to fill the void left by Alexis Sanchez’s departure to join Manchester United in January and could be set to benefit from a bargain addition.

According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, Arsenal are closing in on the services of Sporting Lisbon ace Gelson Martins as he told the Sky Sports’ Transfer Podcast.

“Gelson looks close. The transfer fits Emery’s profile. It fits Arsenal’s limited transfer budget too.”

The 23-year-old Portugal international, currently on duty with his nation at the World Cup, is poised to leave Sporting on a free transfer after citing just cause to cancel his contract with the Portuguese side.

Shocking incidents occurred at the club earlier this season when fans stormed the training ground to attack the players, which could lead to a mass exodus this summer.
