Arsenal boss Unai Emery is eyeing midfield additions this summer due to the uncertain situation surrounding a number of the Gunners’ prized assets.
Santi Cazorla is poised to leave on a free transfer and England international Jack Wilshere could follow him out of the Emirates Stadium, while there’s concern that Aaron Ramsey could run down his contract as he enters his final 12 months.
As such, The Mirror states Arsenal are considering activating the £22m release-clause of Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira, who has caught the eye this season and earned a spot in Uruguay’s squad for the World Cup in Russia.
22-year-old Torreira has already attracted attention from Italian giants Juventus and Napoli, while the report also indicates that fellow Premier League side Everton have joined Arsenal in the pursuit for the talented youngster.
The central midfielder contributed four goals and one assist this season in the Serie A and will be looking to shine at the World Cup next month.
