Arsenal trailing Premier League rival in pursuit of £90m French ace

|

Liverpool remain ahead of Arsenal in the pursuit of Monaco’s Thomas Lemar according to the Independent.

The newspaper’s chief football writer Miguel Delaney says the Reds are closely monitoring the winger’s situation following a report in L’Equipe that the Frenchman has turned down a new contract to stay with the Ligue One club.

Lemar was close to signing for the Gunners back in August, but Liverpool were also said to have made an offer for the attacking midfielder.

The Reds are believed to have had a £78m bid rejected by Monaco, while Arsenal’s own offer was accepted. It seems however that at present, the player has his heart set on a move to Anfield.

The winger has struggled for form this season following an excellent campaign last year. His three goals and five assists in 23 matches is not a great return, and with the Mirror reporting that Monaco would only accept bids of £90m or above, it is open to debate whether such an investment is worthwhile.
