Arsenal fall behind in chase to land January target this summer

|

Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for Bordeaux’s Malcolm during the January transfer window but it seems that the Gunners have missed their chance to land the highly-rated winger.

The Mirror claims Bayern Munich are now leading the chase to sign the 20-year-old Brazilian, who caught the eye of both Arsenal and north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur during the mid-season transfer window.

However Bordeaux, who are struggling in Ligue 1 this season, refused to sanction a departure and that’s allowed Bayern to steal a march in the chase for his signature- as they seek to bolster their side in order to return to the summit of European football.

The Bavarian outfit are keen on replacing ageing duo Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, with Malcolm seen as the ideal signing- and Bordeaux boss Gus Poyet has already admitted he expects to lose his starring youngster during the summer.

Malcolm is yet to feature for Brazil’s senior side but represented his nation in the 2016 Olympics and could become a key-part of the South American nation’s squad in the post World Cup era.
