Arsenal could battle Liverpool for Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman, according to Calciomercato.com (via Fichajes.com)

The Dutch international has struggled for form this campaign, and there has been speculation that Roma could cash in on the player as they seek to strengthen their squad in other areas.

However, Radja Nainggolan’s prospective move to China could have scuppered the Gunners’ chance of landing Strootman. The Belgian midfield enforcer was said to be close to a move to Guangzhou Evergrande for €50m but Roma’s sporting director Monchi has refuted those claims.

It means Strootman could still make a move in this transfer window. Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport say the Giallorossi are open to offers for both both the Dutchman and his team mate Emerson Palmieri.

Strootman has scored just one goal in 22 appearances this season, and was benched for the 1-1 draw against Sassuolo at the end of last month, before returning for the 2-1 defeat to Atalanta in Roma’s last league match.
