Theo Walcott will sign for Everton in the next 48 hours after agreeing a £20million move from Arsenal.

The England international was being heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates this month with West Ham and Southampton also keen on the 28-year-old. But it appears Everton have won the race to land him and will become the club’s second January addition.

Walcott is set to have a medical today and, barring any complications, will sign for the Merseyside club, ending his 12-year stay at Arsenal.

Discussing his interest in the winger last week, Sam Allardyce said:

‘It would be a great addition in my opinion to come and join us.

‘For two or three reasons really – goalscoring threat, pace, experience and he’s good on assists from wide areas in terms of his crossing abilities.

‘If it’s at all possible, that would be very nice.’

If Walcott completes his switch to Everton, then his last appearance in an Arsenal shirt would have been in the club’s 2-1 loss to Bournemouth last Sunday after coming off from the bench for a cameo role.

Many Arsenal fans will be glad to see the back of Walcott after the forward failed to live up to the hype. £20million for a fringe player isn’t too bad either. Hopefully it goes towards a new signing.
