Cagliari’s continued participation in the Coppa Italia could prompt them to make a move for Arsenal right back Carl Jenkinson, according to the Corriere Dello Sport.

Without the cup competition, the Serie A side would have had only 38 games to play this season in the league, reducing their need for another full back. However, Cagliari beat Palermo 4-2 on penalties in the Coppa Italia third round on Saturday night, and it could lead to a bid from the Italian club for Jenkinson.

The Corriere Dello Sport also say that Birmingham City could be Cagliari’s biggest rivals for the 25 year old but no club so far is believed to have made a bid for the former England international this summer.

The full back reportedly turned down a move to Crystal Palace in January due to personal terms not being agreed, and he would no doubt have to take a sizeable pay cut if he were to make the switch to Italy or the Championship.
