VVV Venlo technical director Stan Valckx has confirmed that the club are looking at bringing in Arsenal attacking midfielder Kelechi Nwakali on a season long loan.

The 19 year old spent last season with MVV Maastricht before returning to the Gunners, but speaking with Dutch newspaper De Limburger, Valckx said that VVV are waiting on Arsenal’s decision regarding the player’s future:

“We’re still looking for a type [of player] like Nwakali. [We’re] waiting for him to come from Arsenal.”

Nigerian website ScoreNigeria jumped the gun last Saturday when they revealed that Nwakali had signed a loan deal to join VVV but it seems likely that a move will be done before the end of the transfer window, unless another club have entered the running for the midfielder.

A national Dutch magazine Voetbal International have commented that VVV are confident of landing Nwakali with a loan deal “close” to being agreed. The teenager performed well in the Dutch second division last season for MVV, playing 29 league games, and scoring two goals, but a move to Eredivisie side VVV would be a step up in class.
