Yaya Sanogo has been released by Arsenal along with three other players after the club decided not to extend his contract

The Frenchman joined the Gunners from Auxerre in summer 2013 but only managed to make just 20 appearances over four years at the club.

The Arsenal flop only managed to score one goal during his time at the Emirates, this against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League during the 2014/15 campaign, and spent most of his time loaned out. In a boost to find his confidence and more importantly his goalscoring boots, Arsene Wenger sent him out on loan on FOUR occasions (Crystal Palace, Ajax, Jong Ajax and Charlton in that order) but to no avail – he managed just four goals (one with Palace and three with Charlton) in a combined total of 28 appearances for the quartet.

In a statement posted on the official Arsenal website, it read:

“Yaya Sanogo and academy players Stefan O’Connor, Kristopher da Graca and Kostas Pileas will leave us at the end of their contracts this summer.

“Yaya made 20 competitive appearances for us, including a key role off the bench in 2014 Emirates FA Cup final as we lifted the trophy in his debut season.”

Needless to say, Sanogo will not be missed, in fact, many would have forgotten that he was still on the books until just now.
