Granit Xhaka has possibly made the most delusional statement of the season so far, and I’ve read a few on social media.
The Swiss midfielder insists Arsenal are on the ‘same level’ as Bayern Munich, despite being dumped out of the Champions League in humiliating fashion but the Bundesliga club earlier this month. The two sides met in the Last 16 Round of Europe’s elite competition where the Gunners were on the end of two 5-1 defeats.
While many saw once again that Arsene Wenger’s side are nowhere at the level of Bayern Munich, Xhaka claims they the north London club are on par with the German giants.
Quoted in The Sun, the 24-year-old said:
“The results against Bayern Munich were very bad but we are not that far off them and in my view they are on the same level as Arsenal.
“I know that is a brave statement to make, but that’s how I feel.
“The defeats particularly annoy me because I have good memories of my previous games against Bayern.
“We were able to beat them three times with Borussia Moenchangladbach. And I don’t think Gladbach are on the same level as Arsenal.”
I don’t know what Xhaka has been drinking or smoking, but he needs to give it a rest.
In the past seven years in the Champions League it’s been proven time and time again that we are nowhere in the same league as Europe’s elite clubs, so for the midfielder to make such an outrageous statement will only have Arsenal fans either laughing at him or scratching their heads.
Arsenal have been competing in the Champions League for 19 years and have made just one final, this back in 2006 where they lost 2-1 to Barcelona.
