Arsenal invincible Robert Pires believes it is more important for the club to secure the services of Arsene Wenger rather than Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

With his current deal set to expire over the summer, Wenger has yet to put pen to paper on a reported new two-year deal, but has revealed he has made a decision on his future and announce it at the right time.

The 67-year-old Frenchman has come under severe criticism by a section of the Arsenal faithful who want to see him step down rather than sign a new deal following poor results in the Premier League as of late – losing six of their last nine matches – as well as being knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich earlier in the month.

Meanwhile, both Sanchez and Ozil’s contracts expire at the end of next season with neither committing to a new deal as of yet. Wenger has stated since that both players’ contracts will be shelved until the summer, while reports suggest both could be on their way out.

However, Pires reckons it’s Wenger’s contract that is the most important to address before anything else:

Speaking to Sky Sports News (via The Daily Mirror), the former France international said:

“I hope for him (Sanchez) and Ozil they extend with new contracts. The negotiation is very difficult and maybe complicated.

“But the most important is to see Arsene Wenger extend. Arsene Wenger is very, very important for Arsenal for now and for next season.

“I believe in Arsene Wenger. For me it was a privilege to work with him for six seasons. He was not perfect but he was good, we won some titles.”

Is agreeing a new deal with Wenger more important than securing the services of Ozil and Sanchez?
