Arsenal are weighing up a move for Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye this summer.
The Sun claims that Arsene Wenger has been impressed by his scouts’ reviews of the 27-year-old since his arrival from Aston Villa last summer.
Gueye has been compared to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante by Everton’s director of football Steve Walsh, who brought the Frenchman to the Premier League, and it is now understood that the Gunners are ready to compete with teams from Spain and Italy to land the Senegal international over the summer.
Everton are aware of the interest in Gueye and are keen to tie him down to improved terms following his impressive impact on the Merseyside team. Gueye’s stats in midfield for tackles and interceptions last season were just behind Kante’s, and he was also statistically the best ball-winning man in the middle of the park in Europe in 2016.
Arsenal only signed Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach last summer but has struggled with disciplinary problems, while Francis Coquelin is viewed by many of the Arsenal fans as not good enough to protect the back-line. They reportedly see Gueye as a perfect midfield enforcer that could add solidarity in the centre of the team.
Everton signed Gueye for £7.1million and could stand to make a huge profit should they decide to sell over the summer.
