Watford are the fifth club to formally enquire about the availability of Arsenal full back Carl Jenkinson, according to the Mirror.

Fellow Premier League clubs Hull City, West Ham United and Swansea are also said to be making moves to sign the 24-year-old, while Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa have been the most heavily linked club in recent weeks.

Jenkinson returned from a serious knee injury back in October, playing in the fourth round of the EFL Cup in the 2-0 win over Reading.

Since then, the right back has started games in the Champions League but he is behind Hector Bellerin in the pecking order at the Emirates. It has led Gunners boss Arsene Wenger to suggest that he maybe better served regaining form and fitness out on loan.

The biggest obstacle to any loan departure however, maybe team mate Mathieu Debuchy. In a recent interview with L’Equipe, the Frenchman has begun to agitate for a move away from the London club. It is likely that if he does depart Arsenal, Wenger will need Jenkinson to stay in order to provide cover.
