Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy has expressed his frustration at the lack of first-team opportunities at the Emirates.

The 31-year-old was prevented from leaving for Espanyol or Fiorentina at the end of the summer transfer window, and the Frenchman says he has rarely spoken to manager Arsene Wenger since then.

In an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe, Debuchy was also asked about his hopes for the January transfer window. He says he wants to leave the Gunners but he feels powerless to do anything if Wenger decides to reject approaches from other clubs once again:

‘What do I hope for in the next window? A way out. I want to tackle a new challenge, to get back involved, just to do my job well. I miss not having the excitement, the adrenaline. I would prefer a transfer but I am just an employee. If the club says no to me, what can I do?’

It seems clear that Wenger will only allow one of either Debuchy or Carl Jenkinson to leave next month. The Gunners boss wants to keep a solid backup to first choice right back Hector Bellerin.

Jenkinson is interesting a number of Premier League and Championship clubs, and if he does depart on a loan deal, Debuchy may find himself reluctantly staying once again at the club.
