Arsenal involved in four-way winter battle for France U19 starlet

|

Arsenal will have to fight off RB Leipzig, Juventus and Barcelona to sign Dayot Upamecano from Red Bull Salzburg in the January transfer window, according to BILD.

The German newspaper believes Leipzig will have the upper hand over their rivals due to the fact that soft drinks manufacturer Red Bull effectively owns both clubs.

BILD report that the Frenchman will be on the move when the window opens next month, and it will mean the Gunners will have to be on their toes if they are to beat Leipzig to the French Under 19 international’s signature.

Spanish newspaper Sport reported earlier this month that Upamecano would reject Arsenal as he wants to play for Barcelona but the 18-year-old has not been subject to any formal bid from the Spanish League champions. He was also linked heavily with Manchester United before he joined Salzburg in 2015.

The centre back spent most of his first season on loan at Salzburg’s feeder club FC Liefering in the Austrian second division but he has become a first team regular this campaign, having made 21 appearances.
