Wenger pulled plug on exciting summer midfielder deal

|

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger pulled the plug on a potential deal to sign Adrien Rabiot from Paris Saint-Germain over the course of the summer, according to Le Parisien.

The Gunners had a relatively busy summer transfer window, adding Shkodran Mustafi, Lucas Perez and Granit Xhaka to the North London club’s first-team squad.

However, the potential to sign Rabiot from the French champions was also reportedly there, but Wenger opted against adding the versatile midfielder to his group.

The PSG youth product has been a rising star in Ligue 1 over a number of seasons but is never guaranteed a regular starting berth at the Parc des Princes due to the wealth of talent in the boiler room in Paris.

The report suggests that Rabiot would have been open to a move to the Gunners this summer but Wenger did not sanction the deal due to his friendship with the owners of PSG – who wanted the midfielder to stay in the French capital.
