A member of Werder Bremen’s board has admitted that he is happy with the German club’s ability to ensnare Serge Gnabry from Arsenal.

The German winger was being tipped to have a bright future at the Emirates Stadium but struggled to make an impression in the first team due to the presence of other top-class players in the final third.

Although a section of the North London support would have preferred to have kept Gnabry at the club, the sprightly attacker was allowed to leave for the Bundesliga on deadline day.

A member of Bremen’s supervisory board, Wili Lemke, has stated that the German side have pulled off a coup in landing the former West Brom loanee.

“I think it’s really very clever and creative how Frank Baumann has gone about the deal,” he told Sport1.

“I think it’s great how it’s turned out.

“It’s difficult for me to talk openly about it as I’m a member of the supervisory board and have to adhere to confidentiality.”

Arsenal may come to regret letting Gnabry leave if the young German forward reaches his potential back in his homeland.

The starlet was part of the Germany team that was beaten on penalties by Brazil in the final of the football tournament at the Olympic Games this summer.
