Arsenal have been listed as a suitor of Manchester United centre-half Phil Jones and want to sign the England international in January, according to The Sun.
The Gunners have been listed as interested in the powerful defender, with Liverpool also quote as a team keeping tabs on the situation.
Jones has fallen down the pecking order at United since Jose Mourinho’s appointment as the club’s manager, with Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Daley Blind ahead of him currently.
As such, the former Blackburn Rovers enforcer is seemingly set for prolonged periods on the sidelines this season.
Arsenal have splurged £35 million on Shkodran Mustafi this summer to bolster Arsene Wenger’s options at the back, with the Germany international partnering with good effect with Laurent Koscielny so far.
With Gabriel Paulista potentially set to return to first-team action against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup and Per Mertesacker also on the mend, it would come as a major shock if the North London outfit looked to add a defender to their squad in January.
