Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is considering a shock £15 million move for West Brom centre-half Jonny Evans this summer to ease his defensive problems, according to The Mirror.

The North London club are facing the prospect of being light at the heart of their rearguard for the Premier League opener against Liverpool later this month, with a number of options unavailable or injured currently.

Evans left boyhood club Manchester United to move to The Hawthorns and has been a solid member of Tony Pulis’ squad in recent times.

The Northern Ireland international also performed admirably for his country at Euro 2016, raising his stock further.

Evans would offer plenty of domestic and Champions League experience but would not be as glamorous a signing as some of the other names mentioned as a potential new arrival at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have signed Rob Holding to bolster their defensive ranks this summer already.
