Arsenal have confirmed on their official website that attacker Joel Campbell will spend the 2015-16 season on loan at Sporting Lisbon.
The Costa Rica international is an able performer and has always delivered when called upon by Emirates Stadium chief Arsene Wenger.
However, it has only been when the Gunners have struggled with injuries that Campbell has been afforded a regular berth in the North London team.
The presence of the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez has prevented the gifted attacker from featuring regularly, while Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all also ahead of him in Wenger’s preferences.
A stint at Sporting will give Campbell the chance to play regularly and also subject him to Champions League football with the Portuguese giants.
Campbell has spent most of his Arsenal career out on loan, with similar temporary deals at Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiakos and Villarreal in the past.
