Is he worth £100k-a-week?

Arsenal are set to pay Petr Cech £100,000-a-week, which would make him the highest paid goalkeeper in the club’s history.

The 33-year-old shot-stopper is on the verge of signing for the Gunners in a £10 million deal this summer after revealing he wants to leave Chelsea but stay in London.

Cech has been at Chelsea for 11 years but lost his starting position in Jose Mourinho’s to Thibaut Courtois, with the Czech international keen to play regular first-team football next season.

With the transfer close to being completed, the Daily Mirror suggests Arsenal are prepared to pay Cech £100,000-a-week. Should he accept, then Cech would be the highest paid goalkeeper in Arsenal’s history and earn more than what he was at Stamford Bridge.

PSG were also interested in the experienced goalkeeper and were ready to offer him an even bigger wage package of around £150,000-a-week.

However, Cech has chosen to remain in London and seems days away from being confirmed an Arsenal player.

But is Cech worth £100,000-a-week?

A new goalkeeper with plenty of experience was on the cards this summer and Arsene Wenger and the club have done extremely good business with Chelsea for Cech. £10 million is a decent fee for the veteran shot-stopper as he has a wealth of experience both in the Premier League and Champions League, and he is a winner.

A world-class goalkeeper can be the difference from winning and losing, and in the past we have lost vital points because of goalkeeping errors – hopefully this will change with Cech between the sticks.

So to answer my own question, is Cech worth £100,000-a-week? I believe so.
