Who should fill in for Theo? [have your say]

Theo WalcottAs we are fully aware by now, Walcott suffered anterior cruciate knee ligament damage in the FA Cup win game against Spurs last Saturday and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season as well as the World Cup, leaving Arsene Wenger to ponder whether he needs to sign another forward this January.

But another matter that should be addressed is who will fill in for Theo whilst he recovers?

Well looking at the current squad (when fully fit) there are a few options for Wenger to consider, these are: Tomas Rosicky, Serge Gnabry, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and Santi Cazorla.

But who would suit the role the best?

Well here is a look at the potential candidates and how I rate their chances of securing the right wing role:

Rosicky – the Czech veteran can play on either flank, but coming in from the left is where he is most effective these days. The 33-year-old has bags of energy and does track back to help out the full-back. If Wenger wants to add experience to the side then Rosicky’s the man. 7/10

Gnabry – the fans favourite for the role after his dazzling display against Spurs last week. Fearless, dynamic and powerful but Gnabry is very much inexperienced. We will see a lot more of him this season now that Walcott is out, but can’t see him playing starting week in, week out. 6/10

Ramsey – the Welshman was predominately utilized as a right winger last season and, due to his poor performances, was a victim of the Emirates boo-boys. Although he is tireless, Ramsey is not made for the winger role and is more effective in the centre of the park as his stats suggest this season. 3/10

Ozil – I think you get the best out of the German playmaker when he’s behind the striker. However, he has been playing the majority of his football, since joining Arsenal, on the right wing when Walcott was initially injured earlier on in the season, and he hasn’t done bad. Ozil’s creativity is something to admire but he struggles to track back when not in possession. 8/10

Wilshere – like Ramsey, Wilshere’s best games for Arsenal have come from the centre of midfield. The England international can play on the wing but like Ozil struggles, at times, to track back. He has the vision and passing ability but lacks pace to go up and down for 90 minutes. 5/10

Chamberlain – looks the odds-on favourite to come in and take the spot as he is a powerful runner who possesses speed and the ability to take on opposition full-backs. Many believe him to be an upgraded version of Theo but I still think he lacks the experience and the fatigue to play regularly. 9/10

Cazorla – the Spanish maestro is versatile and can play anywhere along the three behind the striker. We have seen him on the left wing a few times this season but because he’s two-footed he could easily play on the right. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him switch wings for the remainder of the season. 9/10

Cazorla or Chambo for me, but who do you think should fill in for Theo?
