Antoine GriezmannArsenal are keen to bring in Antoine Griezmann after having their initial £12 million bid knocked back by Real Sociedad on Friday, according to the Metro.

With Olivier Giroud, Nicklas Bendnter and Theo Walcott all out injured – in Theo’s case, out for the season – Arsene Wenger has been looking to buy another forward to add more depth to his front-line and has listed Griezmann as a potential recruit.

A £12 million bid was reportedly lodged by the Gunners which was turned down by Sociedad, with the La Liga club said to want closer to £24 million for the French winger.

Griezmann has been in impressive form for Sociedad this season, scoring 12 goals in 16 La Liga matches so far, but it remains to be seen whether Wenger will offer £24 million for the 22-year-old, who is cup-tied in the Champions League.

So, knowing Sociedad want at least £24 million for their dynamic winger, should Wenger cough up the cash?

Griezmann possesses explosive speed, great ball control and acceleration from a standing point, as well as the ability to find the back of the net – as evident by his goal to game ratio this season. In addition, the Frenchman is also versatile. He is usually deployed as a left winger but can play as a striker if need be.

The Sociedad forward looks a typical Wenger signing to me and although Griezmann, who still has two-years left to run on his existing contract, is cup-tied in the Champions League, it hasn’t deterred Arsene’s interest if reports are to be believed.

We do have Lukas Podolski, Tomas Rosicky, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Serge Gnabry who can all play on the wings. However, only Serge is a traditional winger out of the lot, so adding another to the squad, now that Theo is out, would be beneficial in the long-term. Not only that, but signing Griezmann would potentially kill two birds with one stone as he can play anywhere along the attack.

In my opinion, Griezmann has the potential to be a world-class player if nurtured correctly, and I also think if he was to come to Arsenal he would no doubt enhance our chances of lifting silverware this season – this is why I hope to see Wenger fork out £24 million for the Sociedad attacker.
