Porto goal-machine Jackson Martinez recently admitted that he wouldn’t hesitate to accept the chance to play for Arsenal, as reported by the Metro.
With Olivier Giroud struggling for fitness and Nicklas Bendtner reportedly out for a month, as well as Theo Walcott set to be sidelined for a bit, Arsene Wenger may now have to delve in the transfer market and recruit another striker.
A lot of forwards have been linked with a move to the Emirates in the past month. But with The Gunners reportedly keen on Martinez, the Colombian’s latest comments will no doubt enhance their chances of signing the 27-year-old.
Martinez bagged an impressive 29 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions for Porto last season and has continued his fine form this campaign for the Portuguese outfit, finding the back of the net 15 times already.
Porto will desperately want to keep hold of their prized asset and so it will take a huge bid (around the £30 million mark) from the Gunners to get them onto the negotiation table.
However, Martinez, who still has two-years left to run on his existing deal, is clearly keen on a move away from Porto this month:
‘I cheered for Arsenal when I was a kid – I love their style of play,’
‘It’s flowing and open with a lot of first touch passes. It would be suitable for a player like me.
‘If I get a chance to play for a high level club like Arsenal I wouldn’t hesitate to accept it.’
What more do you need Wenger? Make this happen!
suarez out of reach, try dzeko, remy or lambert for remaining part of the season.
I think Wenger needs to concentrate on Diego Costa rather than running after so many striker and in the end loosing them all
Please Wenger should look for good striker like Mata, Ba, Lukako etc. Because I want Arsenal to win this season.
UP GUNNERS
I think, Jackson Martinez has the same caliber as Diego Costa, Lewandoski, and Dzeko. Those names, in my opinion, got all we need to determine our title campaign this year and to establish our title contender position in England and Europe years to come. Among them, in my opinion, Martinez, has biggest prospect to land at the Emirates.
With 6 feet 1 inch (185 cm) tall, about Koscielny size, he has natural strength in aerial ball, but unlike Giroud, the colombian also has the pace. He also has the skill over Giroud, and a poacher too. Just watched him on internet, and you can feel that the guy is a real beast.
Diego Costa is currently one of the best striker in Europe, but his prospect to end with us is very unlikely. Money and Atletico will not gonna be our biggest problem. The biggest problem will come from Costa himself. Just got his Spanish passport, he won’t mess his great running campaign for place in Spain NT for Brazil WC 2014. Another candidate, Lewandoski is about to announce his move to Muenchen, when ManShit won’t have the balls to sell Dzeko to their direct rival. For me, Martinez is the man. Berbatov? He WAS great. WAS, that’s past tense! I’m glad Arsene had turned him down. He won’t put our title campaign in the shoulder of Fulham bench warmer, and so am I.
If martinez accept to sign with arsenal, i surely blev the drought of trouphy will be over.D Costa will not sign with arsenal at this time around bcos, athleco madrid are the title countenders.
please wenger sign martinez to solve arsenal striking problems
jst go get him for us..we need trophies!
Martinez or D costa will complete the magic that signing Ozil started!
Pliz wenger, go for this goal scoring machine becoz he has got wats required 2 take us 2 the glory again, jacksøn martinez!
