Earlier this month Standard Liege’s club president Roland Duchatelet claimed Arsenal were eyeing up a move for Michy Batshuayi.
However, the player’s agent, Katrien Meire, recently revealed that only several Italian clubs have made enquiries for the 20-year-old but has yet to hear anything from Arsenal, suggesting, for the time being anyway, that it is nothing more than a rumour:
‘Interest of Italian clubs? Some intermediaries have asked. Nobody from the Gunners has talked to us – they are just rumours.’
Batshuayi, a Belgium Under-21 international, has made a superb start to the season for Liege, scoring 12 goals in 19 league outings thus far, and because of his fine form found himself being linked with a number of clubs from around Europe.
Due to the lack of options upfront, a handful of strikers have already been linked with a move to Arsenal when the transfer window re-opens. But it remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger will register an interest in the Belgian starlet this winter if any.
Although he is an emerging talent in the game, I would rather Wenger sign a more experienced and proven striker than Batshuayi
Batshuayi is believed to be valued at around £4-5 million.
