Michy BatshuayiArsenal are chasing Standard Liege striker Michy Batshuayi, according to DHnet.be.

The Belgium publication suggests the Gunners are interested in the 20-year-old as they look to recruit a new forward to help out Olivier Giroud with the goals.

Despite having Nicklas Bendtner back at the Emirates and scoring, many believe Arsene Wenger’s side still lack the firepower to seriously challenge for silverware this season.

And although Wenger previously stated he will not be in the window this January for another striker, Standard Liege’s president Roland Duchatelet revealed Arsenal are just one among many chasing Batshuayi:

‘What is new is the interest of Arsenal, although Arsenal are just one of many clubs who are chasing our striker Michy. Anyway, we are not willing to let go Michy this season.’

Batshuayi, a Belgium Under-21 international, has found the net 35 times in 98 appearances in all competitions for Liege and is under contract until 2017.

Although Wenger says he will not be bringing in a striker this January, I beg to differ. I think the Frenchman has something up his sleeve and will bring in someone to help out Giroud with the goals, despite having Theo Walcott and Bendtner available for selection.

Will it be Batshuayi? Well it doesn’t look like it after reading Duchatelet’s comments. Not until next summer anyway.
