Has he really been that poor since his arrival?

Mesut OzilMesut Ozil’s arrival from Real Madrid over the summer was both shocking and exciting for us Arsenal fans.

The 25-year-old German star has been dubbed by many as the ‘king of assists’ and is arguably one of the most technically gifted footballers currently operating in Europe – How Arsene Wenger managed to sign him from Real still has many of us scratching our head.

A fee in the region of £42 million was spent to bring Ozil to Arsenal and expectations for him to perform and deliver on a regular basis are high.

The creative midfielder has been ever-present for us since his coming, making 20 appearances in all competition so far and he has already managed to rack up nine assists, as well as five goals for the Gunners and currently leads the Premier League assist charts with seven.

However, a lot of criticism has come the German’s way. I’m not talking about after the game against Manchester City when he never went over to the away fans and applauded them for their support; I’m talking about the condemnation of Ozil for not delivering in the ‘big games’, leading many, to ask if he was actually worth the fee Wenger acquired him for.

To all those pointing their fingers at Mesut for not delivering when it matters or not performing to the standard we expect from him (like Michael Owen) what more do you want from the guy? He’s currently the top assister in the Premier League and has five goals to his name already. Ok, at times he has been quiet and his form has been inconsistent but he needs more time to adjust to his new surroundings and especially the frantic pace and power of Premier League football.

A lot of top players, past and present, have failed to step up to the plate in the big matches and I believe the media’s criticism of the German playmaker is very harsh – it’s only because we signed him for a massive fee that people are taking notice of his recent below-par performances.

There are still plenty of games left to play and for the time he’s been here, I feel Ozil has had a productive start to his Arsenal career.

More will come from the German as the season progresses, I’m sure of it. Hopefully, for his and Arsenal’s sake he doesn’t take any notice of what is being said and written about him.

Couldn’t agree more. In my opinion if you have a poor game and get an assist ( as against MC), you must be doing something right. If this is his settling in season imagine the assist chart in the next 2-3 years. For me it’s almost the pundits who don’t want Arsenal to win the league coming up with any excuse to justify their opinion. That may be quite narrow minded however in some ways I hope the Arsenal dressing room takes this approach, and shows the rest of the country why they deserve to be top if the league. Team spirit, excellence in all departments ( if not all at once) and hopefully an overwhelming desire to prove they’re good enough will see us through. I hope and believe they will. Up the gooners!!

You know with big teams they tend too mark key players tightly, so ozil was given little space.

people who dont understand football come out with that sheet. look how all the madrid players including ronaldo were crying cause MAD-rid sold him to us, they prob would have committed mass suicide if they sold him to Barca. also reminds me of the idiots who used slag of gilberto silva until he was injured then it became clear how important he was to our team. Micheal owen is a drip with the peronality of wet card board.

Articles like this are literary junk food. If you moved the author’s plate 5 inches to the left he’d starve to death.

In leiu of the fact that Ozil is leading the league in assists after only 5 months into his Arsenal career, debates like this are simply Pointless and Idiotic!

Eglish fans are ruthless in their observation of Ozil. The guy has been playing for arsenal for 4 months and you are already writing off as no good. He is playing with a combination of midfielders and wingers in each game so far. At RM he knew he will play center, Ronaldo in the wing Demaria on the side and Banzema in the middle. The lineup never changed, they developed chemistry and he led the league in assist. Until Arsenal settled on a specific lineup, the team will struggle.

The English are naturally envious of those better than them and would stop at nothing to bring them down. The issue of Micheal Owen’s latest comments is a sad case. In my own opinion, Owen was a flop and his views on the game is very watery.
