Top of the Premier League with a lead we can be proud of after our recent run of games. Recent history suggests the title winners have come from one of the top four at this stage of the season, though pundits still don’t consider the Gunners as major contenders despite out impressive start.
With the majority of our squad set to return from injury in the next few weeks one would say we will be up there come May, though I think we are a player or two shy of being genuine contenders.
The way I see it a quality striker would do wonders for us and give us that push in the final stretch of the campaign. Despite Olivier Giroud’s brilliant form we still lack quality in the attacking department.
And former Newcastle forward Alan Shearer believes the same as me and reckons Arsene Wenger’s side cannot be considered serious title contenders until they sign someone like Karim Benzema.
Shearer recently said:
‘I’ve tended to stay with what I said earlier in the season that, up to now, I don’t think Arsenal will win it, but if they went out and made a big statement come January and were to get someone like Benzema and carried on the form.’
He added:
‘They have had a fantastic start, you can’t deny that, but if you were to give them a world class centre-forward like Benzema then people might have to start revising their opinion.’
I for one agree with the BBC pundit. Benzema is on many European clubs’ shortlist and a move to Arsenal, with the way things are shaping up since the arrival of Mesut Ozil, is possible.
We’ve had games where we’ve needed something different when Giroud hasn’t been at his best. And adding a player of Benzema’s calibre would surely give us that edge upfront and send a message to the rest of the Premier League that we are indeed serious contenders this season. If Benzema is brought in, which could occur as the Frenchman is not loved at the Bernabeu, it will almost certainly work wonders on our current players’ confidence and give them that drive to push on and possibly win the title this season.

Benzema is fantastic Striker…
Benzema won’t come even if AW wanted him, which he doesn’t. If he came either him or Giroud would spend a lot of time on the bench, and before the World Cup Benzema wouldn’t risk that. We need an understudy who’d be happy to sit on the sidelines until his chance comes. Sanogo is just that but if he’s injured then we need someone else in January.
Mate forget your your delusions, SaNOGO is complete rubbish and wouldn’t get a gig at any EPL party. Giroud, to be frank, is the quality of player who should be the understudy to a player of the quality this team actually requires. Giroud is stop gap, not spear head. We’re Arsenal not WestHam or Celtic. Giroud is not good enough and his talent is generally less than his team mates who also start. Put it this way, not only would Sanogo not get a start in the championship, Giroud wouldn’t make the bench of the 4 top EPL sides.
Wenger needs to buy a striker who is at least as talented as our mideifeld.

I gotta go with Mark on this one. Giroud is having a good season but he will never be that Luis Suarez, or Lewandowski, or even the player aformentioned in Benzema type of forward. He’s a great hold up player and one of the best headers of the ball I’ve seen in some time. His work rate is phenomenal compared to last year. Now on to Sanogo… from what he displayed the few subs appearances he made for us were so highly disappointing, it made me wonder why we signed him even if it was on a “Free”. Looks lost and star struck, takes ridiculous shots from 30-40 yards out ending up in the nose bleeds, and so on. People seem to forget that we have Walcott coming back for Southampton this weekend and Poldi coming back I n the next week or two. Add a top notch striker to that batch and hopefully a solid center back to deputise foe Per and Kosc cuz Verm ain’t cutting it these days. Unfortunately we need a right back soon and it’s looking more and more likely Sagna will be a PSG player next summer. We should trade for Gillett or Van der Weil. They’re both top class RB and one would have to go either way following the arrival of Sagna if the deal does materialize. In the me)

Reus would be better than either Benzema or Lewandoski. On the wing, in behind, second striker = Goals!
I agree with Mark,we are a quality team and we need to keep on raising high the bars! SANOGO is just irrelevant at this point in time,to not take nothing away from GIROUD,his an excellent player in the air and all but pace is what we need to maintain,getting in the likes of KARIM,SAUREZ,PATO,DZEKO that MILLZ my friend is the right direction to go if we wanna stretch the team into a title contender squad….
If we r to concider the kind of striker we need it should Robert Lewandoski not karim reason he hasn’t done enough to prove he’s worthy our team

Benzema is a fantastic striker but arsenal should not depend on signing him showing the situation In madrid since his the only striker there. I prefer we go for alexander pato for me it would be a great signing since there is a greater chance of getting him than benzema
