Can this man keep Arteta out of the side?

Mathieu FlaminiWell that is it the summer transfer window slammed for another year but we only have to wait until January until the next window opens.

In total we signed four players – Emiliano Viviano on loan, Mathieu Flamini and Yaya Sanogo both on a free and Mesut Ozil for £42.4 million on deadline day.

I’m sure we would’ve all loved to see more players come in but let’s take nothing away from the club record signing of Ozil who is a top, top quality player.

I still think there will be more work to do in the January transfer window. We are certainly in need of a centre-back or a right-back, depending on if Bacary Sagna is willing to continue playing in the centre of the defence. We also need another striker in my opinion because we are painfully thin now that Lukas Podolski is out for up to 10 weeks, so I don’t think we are done as a club by any stretch of the imagination. We just have to hope that luck is on our side and also hope we recover from these early injury problems until January comes.

But what I will be looking at in this piece is the re-signing of Flamini.

Personally, I think it was a touch of brilliance by Arsene Wenger to bring back the 29-year-old Frenchman. The tenacious midfielder has obviously come in to help out in the centre of the park while Mikel Arteta is out injured.

But following a commanding second debut against Spurs last weekend, could Flamini be more than just a cover option this season? Can he actually stake a claim for a starting position in midfield?

Well it all depends on what Arsene wants in his side. Personally, I think Arteta will be ahead of Flamini in the pecking order, purely because he can offer more to the side than the latter. Flamini has already shown that he can marshal the team and is willing to get stuck in, but Arteta moves the ball about so much better than the former AC Milan player and possesses more experience at 31.

But, like I said, it all depends on what Arsene wants in his side and, of course, who our opposition is.

What do you guys think?

It depends on the opposition…if we encounter a more physical side,i think ramsey & flamini is better..but a side with flair i will go with arteta & ramsey.

Flamini all day for me… He’s the warrior this team needs. He’s a true enforcer and a vocal leader on the pitch which more than makes up for the fact Arteta is a marginally better passer. Any team with him in it can’t be considered “nice”. He competes hard at all times and will not except a lack of effort or heads dropping. Flamini signing and playing week in and week out is hugely important to this seasons prospects IMO

I still see Arteta ahead of Flamini, with his commanding ability.

What about wilshere and Ramsay, with Ozil, cazorla and Walcott up ahead, I’m not sure that either will get in to the main 11

Rambo will get in for sure…

Flamini defo because Arteta has been a half decent makeshift!

I believe what Arteta needed was a challenge, a competition. Arteta’s game last season was sometimes painfully routine and unspectacular. Flamini’s challenge is going to get him to sit tight.

Arteta is key for the big games, and due to his age needs to be rested as often as possible. We now have a lot of versatility in the side with Flamini able to fill in at both full back positions and Sangas’ more than adequate ability to play in the centre.

The only concern is backup for Giroud and judging by the players we were in for, (but didnt get) Wenger has identified that as the main missing piece of the puzzle. Rather than panic buy another Park/Chamack Wenger took the rational decision to make do with what he has for now. Giroud is not an injury prone player (touch wood) so he should be able to carry us up until the next window. By that time we will have dominated 3 of europes big sides, in our champions group of death, and i recon well have our pick of world class strikers who’ll all be chomping at the bit to play in front of our midfield. Lewandowsky would be ideal, he is waiting for a move to Beyern, but if Wenger can convince Ozil then Lewandowsky could be a real possibility.

Ive been looking at the current squad and it looks very balanced to me. Very good mix of youth and experience, combined with the versatility, seems very very promising. There should also be ample room to develope the youngsters that were looking so promising in pre-season.

With Poldi injured there is a bit of a problem on the left wing, but gibbs can move forward with Monreal coming in at left back.

Ramsey is currently the first name on the team sheet and I think were seeing the re-birth of possibly the best box-box midfielder since Viera. Hes also just getting better and better every game.

So the best team currently, taking away injuries for now, would be.

    —Cheza—

    Sagna – Mert – Koz – Gibbs

    Arteta -Ramsey – Özil

    Theo – Giroud -Santi

Bench – Jack, Flamini, Monreal, Vermalen, Poldi, Viv/Fab, Jenks

    WOW-Scary
The future is bright, the future is RED & WHITE!!!
