Can this man keep Arteta out of the side?

Mathieu FlaminiWell that is it the summer transfer window slammed for another year but we only have to wait until January until the next window opens.

In total we signed four players – Emiliano Viviano on loan, Mathieu Flamini and Yaya Sanogo both on a free and Mesut Ozil for £42.4 million on deadline day.

I’m sure we would’ve all loved to see more players come in but let’s take nothing away from the club record signing of Ozil who is a top, top quality player.

I still think there will be more work to do in the January transfer window. We are certainly in need of a centre-back or a right-back, depending on if Bacary Sagna is willing to continue playing in the centre of the defence. We also need another striker in my opinion because we are painfully thin now that Lukas Podolski is out for up to 10 weeks, so I don’t think we are done as a club by any stretch of the imagination. We just have to hope that luck is on our side and also hope we recover from these early injury problems until January comes.

But what I will be looking at in this piece is the re-signing of Flamini.

Personally, I think it was a touch of brilliance by Arsene Wenger to bring back the 29-year-old Frenchman. The tenacious midfielder has obviously come in to help out in the centre of the park while Mikel Arteta is out injured.

But following a commanding second debut against Spurs last weekend, could Flamini be more than just a cover option this season? Can he actually stake a claim for a starting position in midfield?

Well it all depends on what Arsene wants in his side. Personally, I think Arteta will be ahead of Flamini in the pecking order, purely because he can offer more to the side than the latter. Flamini has already shown that he can marshal the team and is willing to get stuck in, but Arteta moves the ball about so much better than the former AC Milan player and possesses more experience at 31.

But, like I said, it all depends on what Arsene wants in his side and, of course, who our opposition is.

What do you guys think?

I think most of our players have the ability to stay in the starting x1. But importantly its all about squad rotation. I can see matches where flamini and arteta will play together.

…on Point! I see many games where Arteta and Flamini will play together, they’ll give more cover to our defense.

The signs are really good for Flamini. I just think he’s made for the PL and had he stayed he’d probably be club captain now. A Ramsey-Flamini combination in midfield is a fantastic prospect and yes I think Arteta will have a tough time breaking back into the side. The good thing is it just gives us depth and it’s possible Flamini will need to cover fullback positions and Arteta could even be used further forward or in midfield with Flam and Aaron if a more defensive formation is required.

Wenger should go for suares or any top class striker to help giroud fire up

I would back flamini to start every game if he stays fit and keeps his discipline. We have three world class creative players in carzola, wilshere and ozil. Arteta is doggish, but not on the same level as crazy flamini!

I prefer flamini playing as a defensive cover to arteta

Flamini is better. But my real question is, what striker/s should we sign? There does not seem to be many top class strikers anymore. Apart from Lewandoski, no one comes to mind who might be available.

it is true that Arteta moves the ball very well and is a more attack minded midfielder compared to Flamini but i think Flamini will be better protecting the back four and providing more of what we lost in Song in the middle of the pack. This will provide more room for Jack Wilshire and Aaron Ramsey plus our class addition Ozil to threaten defenses .Also, it will provide us with the much needed depth to enable us challenge for honors on all fronts . Also, Flamini is more versatile as he can be deployed in a full back position in a crisis situation . I thin they can play together at some points making it possible for Arteta to play in his more traditional role as an attacking midfielder rather than a holding midfielder. Arteta have the ability to take shots from a distance giving us more chances to get goals particularly so with the creative abilities of Santiago Carzola and Mesut Ozil.By all standards, we have gotten better and will improve come the January transfer Window with the cash that we still have in the bank.

Flamini, Sanogo, Viviano and Özil for just £42.4 million was awesome. Wenger is a clever man. In January should try again for Suarez because he will not be cup tied for Champions league either ….;)
