Yoann GourcuffYoann Gourcuff. Remember him? The France international who was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal last year? Well the 27-year-old is back on Arsenal’s radar after Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas suggested the attacking midfielder is prepared to take a significant pay cut in order to join The Gunners this summer.

Gourcuff signed for Lyon three years ago from Bordeaux in a deal worth €22 million. But the Frenchman has struggled to maintain a regular spot in the Ligue 1’s side line-up due to poor fitness and a number of injuries.

Gourcuff is the highest-paid Frenchman in Ligue 1 but Aulas claims he is willing to accept a lower wage for the chance to join Arsene Wenger’s side:

‘Can you see us paying part of his salary for him to play against us with another French club? We’ve never considered that and it would even more stupid now than it was a fortnight ago.

‘All that I know, if I understood correctly, is that he was ready to lower his salary to go to Arsenal but that’s not the same thing.’

Gourcuff still has two years left to run on his current deal at the Stade de Gerland.

But with the player seemingly yearning to join Arsenal and even prepared to take a pay cut in order to make the move happen, Arsene Wenger should certainly explore the possibility of signing the 6’1’’ midfielder this summer.

Gourcuff has contributed 11 goal and 11 assists in a total of 78 appearances since signing for Lyon back in 2010.
