With a little over a month left until the summer transfer window slams shut, Arsenal are yet to make a marquee signing, with future prospect Yaya Sanogo being the only incoming (free) transfer acquired as of yet.
We have been strongly linked with one world class player as of late – Luis Suarez. His ability and presence on the field is no doubt right up there with the best of them – though he is full of moments that leave managers and fans in a state of disbelief.
But if we do sign the 26-year-old striker will it be enough to help end our trophy drought which has now been stretched to eight seasons? Absolutely not. Our squad isn’t good enough to challenge for any title(s), even if we do sign Suarez. I believe we will still need to require three, maybe four quality signings in order to mount a serious challenge on silverware this season.
I reckon we’re in need of a strong holding midfielder, solid centre-back and a goalkeeper of top quality to really be considered as contenders this season. Our squad does have some very good players already, but then again the same can be said about the large number of fairly average players who feature on a regular basis.
We’ve limped into a top four finish the past few seasons, so the need for quality is clearly evident. But all we can do now is hope and wait for Arsene Wenger to pull a few strings before the transfer window closes.
But the Frenchman shouldn’t pin all his hopes of landing just Suarez. More players will need to come in.
There is no way Suarez would want to go to Arsenal. Why do that when he can go to Real, who will offer Liverpool more and wont score goals against them in the forthcoming season.
arsenal’s problem is a fundamental lack of class players. Having said that, the article is about challenging for silverware. they could easily win the FA cup or League Cup as long as they don’t get Bradford or Birmingham. If they are out of top 4 by Xmas, I think they’ll probably win the FA cup – so the answer to the question is they could easily get silverware.
Suarez wants Real Madrid ,Real Madrid want Bale .If Real do not get Bale then they will get Suarez so where does that leave Arsenal. Its all Bull and AW knows it ,we will be left with another season with not one quality signing as usual and a load of spin how we missed out.
i think suarez is the best solution for Arsenal right now. With suarez, Arsenal will archieve alot of things season..

All Arsenal fans know the positions which need strengthening (keeper / central defence / dfm / and main striker). We don’t need any more tricky little wingers who get barged off the ball …. nor do we need to ruin any more good players by playing them out of position. We also do need Steve Bould to be allowed to do his job instead of being treated as Pat Rice was … as an utter Yes Man. How demeaning for such experienced international defenders – who have actually done it at top level many times …. which Wenger has NOT.
wenger is using this emirate cup to access his players and to make final information as to how he is going to play in the epl.this means that if he had any player in mind to sign,he would have done that to test his performance using the emitate cup and make the neccessary corrections.he will not sign any top top player
