If all else fails, should we look to this man?

NReports over the weekend claimed Arsenal are considering a move for Fernando Torres.

The Gunners are close to capturing the signature of Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid and reportedly tabled a £20 million opening bid for want-away Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

However, reports suggests if Arsene Wenger fails to land either of the two then the Frenchman will look to Torres, who, despite rediscovering his goal-scoring touch, may not be in Jose Mourinho’s plans next season.

With Mourinho preparing to once again add his own stamp to the Chelsea squad, we could see an exodus of players leaving Stamford Bridge in the upcoming weeks, including Torres, who cost the Blues £50 million in 2011.

But should Arsenal be targeting the Spaniard if all else fails?

I know he hasn’t had the greatest of times at Chelsea, but I still think Torres is a quality striker – being off-form and bagging 23 goals in 50 starts (in all competitions) last season is not too shabby.

He’s a type of forward that would suit Arsenal’s football philosophy and I believe would flourish at The Emirates, linking up with the likes of Santi Cazorla, Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski.

He still has three-and-a-half years left to run on his Chelsea contract, but with Mourinho bringing in Andre Schurrle and reportedly targeting Hulk and Edinson Cavani, Torres could be sold. And should he become available for the right price, I think we should consider a move for him. It may prove a difficult task, however, as the major stumbling block in this potential move will prove to be whether Chelsea will sell to Arsenal or any other Premier League rival.

So, should Arsenal target Torres if they fail to land either Higuain or Rooney?

Would he become rediscover his form at Arsenal?

Why do we need Chelski’s cast aways instead of some current top quality?
Seems like a step backwards.Torres is slow and lost a lot of his ealier agilities. He used to hold off defenders and dribble effectively in the box, which I hardly see now-a-days.
I don’t he will offer anything different than Giroud or Pofolski.
