Former Gunner Perry Groves believes Arsenal should sign Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini this summer.
The Gunners have been linked with all three players this summer, with Higuain believed to have agreed terms with the club, while both Rooney and Fellaini are supposedly on Arsene Wenger’s wish-list.
And Groves reckons his former club are set for a big summer spending spree thanks to secure finances.
Quoted on talkSPORT.com, Groves said:
‘It’s not either Higuain or Rooney. As an Arsenal fan if you sign Higuain, Rooney and trigger the release clause for Fellaini, then that would increase [the quality of] your side by 30-40% straight away.
‘Higuain can play up front on his own and Rooney is just a [fabulous] footballer. He had a fantastic season, before Robin van Persie went there, when he played up front on his own and he can play in behind a striker.
‘People forget he had one season where he played left wing when Cristiano Ronaldo was there. He can do a job for the team wherever you ask him to. He’s at his best when he’s in the free role.’
He added:
‘I’d take Wayne Rooney in a heartbeat. I don’t think he feels wanted by Manchester United at the moment.
‘The tipping point was when he was left out against Real Madrid, they played Danny Welbeck just behind the striker and Rooney was on the bench.
‘Rooney would have looked at that and thought ‘you think Danny Welbeck is a better player than me’?
‘So if he becomes available, and Arsenal have the finances, the question is would Rooney make the Arsenal a better side and he would 100%.’
Undoubtedly, what Groves is saying is 100% accurate.
With Higuain becoming the main focal point of our attack, Rooney playing just behind him, and Fellaini adding steel, quality and depth to our already impressive midfield, I can see us doing something big next season.
We have the cash to splash this summer. Hopefully Wenger gives the fans what they want and bring in the quality and experience (like Rooney, Higuain and Fellaini) needed to challenge for silverware next season – preferably the Premier League title.
Wake up boys. You’re not gonna be spending minimum 70 million and I doubt Rooney would take a backward step.
At least you’re not as deluded as old Donkey who thinks “it takes a special player” to play in a city which took half a century to win a European Cup with oil money whilst out of he title race. I won’t even bother mentioning all the special types of players who’ve played in London. LOL.
Oh! I wish the same @ perry groves
Yeah I totally agree with that , This big signing can make us invincible again.

Let us be realistic, How much are going to pay Rooney? And how much are you going to keep paying Jack, Carzola, Gibbs, Chamberlain who is also partnerning him at international level? So is it fair and is it a motivation to the team as a whole? Not all these young players look at winning alone, Most of them look at money and others look at playing time. So if you think bring those expensive players will lift them team then think twice.
We all want good player at Arsenal but others are more of a liability ( have their own package/problems with them) than an asset to Arsenal grade(Not low).
Actually with Rooney’s character, he needs a man like the special one, the one who can even bench Carsilas without worry. Prof Wenger’s managerial style is different and needs special players who listen to him.
